Enartia began its story in 2004 on the island of Crete, starting with Papaki, a registrar that quickly rose to become the leading .GR and .EU domain provider in Greece. Within a few years, Papaki secured ICANN accreditation, cementing its role as Greece’s primary gateway to global domain extensions.
As demand for reliable hosting grew, Enartia launched Top.Host (then Tophost.gr) in 2005. The story really starts with HostMySite, founded in 1997 in Newark, Delaware. HostMySite built its reputation on very hands-on support for shared and dedicated hosting customers. In 2008, private equity (Wachovia Capital Partners, later Pamlico Capital) acquired HostMySite as a platform for consolidation. A year later, in May 2009, HostMySite bought Hosting.com, a more enterprise-focused brand already known for managed dedicated and virtual servers, multi-site colocation, and early "cloud" and hybrid setups. Deluxe’s web-hosting story is basically a long roll-up of niche brands, regional champions, and white-label platforms that all ended up under the Hostopia / Deluxe umbrella – and then, in 2023, under HostPapa. At the core is Hostopia, a white-label hosting platform Deluxe bought in 2008. Hostopia powered web and email services for telcos and large partners, and over time Deluxe started stacking direct-to-consumer brands on top of this infrastructure.
One of the most visible classic SMB brands in this portfolio was Aplus.net, a long-standing US host. Aplus.net had already changed hands (Catalyst Investors in 2006), and in 2009 Hostopia picked up its shared-hosting and web-builder business, folding it into the Deluxe platform while dedicated servers went elsewhere.
Deluxe then went on a North-American M&A run:
