What an experience from hell with their chat agent, Harshith N. I was so disgusted I talked to his supervisor here was her reply-
My name is Chethan Shenava and I am one of the chat supervisors at FatCow. I agree with you. We do not operate this way and surely we do not want this to happen with any of our customers.
There is not enough room here to go through things, but this agent should be fired!!
Also like many others, had credit card charged, even though I wrote and expressely forbid them to do so. It took a fraud complaint to my CC company to get refund.
This is the first time I see that fatcow may have some negative ratings.
I am presently victimized with some downtime of my page, email, and fatcow altogether; so I looked up fatcow's rating with regard to such.
Well, now I hope it is but a sporadic case (maintenance maybe?) ....
(1) when you purchased any domain with them and use your credit card to pay. Fatcow releases your information ( fullname and address and teletphone no ) / sell it to other search website. They do this so that they can sell you the "protection plan" .
This is a very bad business model. You have to pay them so that they wont sell your information. TERRIBLE!
In the privacy section, they said they do not sell your information but if you dont belive this, try to purchase a domain using your credit card, then in google, search your name you will get the list of all the domain you own including your personal information. THey did not do this 2 years ago.

They auto renewed my account even after I cancelled it several times. They will not refund my money. I have two other accounts which I will now be cancelling. The live chat is a Fat joke. They bait and switch by quoting you one price and then charging you for services you did not ask for and jacking up the price the next year for everything. This webhosting is terrible. They are doing this auto renew to so many people there should be a class action law suit!
A couple of years ago I tried them. PHP was not recent enough, I was refused ftp connection and other stuff, so I left.
They told me to give them another chance a week ago.
I went for it, got a new plan... they said they improved.
My plan was not set up within one day - I still have limitations (10 MB hdd space and 0.5 GB/month bandwidth) - the offer was all unlimited. Live chat and ticket submitted about this.
Two days after, another chat, they told me a ticket takes 24-48 hours to solve (already passed 48 hours).
72 hours later, nothing. I ask for cancellation: "it will take two hours".
I ask again for cancellation after 3 hours: "it will take a few hours".
Almost 4 days from the beginning, my hosting is not set up, my account is not cancelled... what can one do?

Before you read my comment and rating, REMEMBER: All those positive RATINGS are prior to mid 2010, after which FATCOW.com has literally become the WORST hosting provider out there!!
PATHETIC! Avoid at all costs.
I've been with these FATCOWS for about 3 months now, and I'm running a very very basic blog with NO vids, NO flash animation, hardly any pictures at all, and yet my page takes up to 15 seconds to appear. I submitted a ticket with them, guess what their response was: NOTHING's wrong from our end, must be your connection. I have a 60 Mbps RCN package DUDE! So he goes: why don't you try one of those Caching plugins? excuse me? that's not your business! it's for me to decide whether I need a caching plugin installed on my blog or not!
Your business was to provide me with the server reliability I paid for! and I already have W3 Total Cache installed!
Guys.. learn from others' mistake. That's all I can say :(

Once a month I get very annoying emails saying that certain emails will be disabled due to lack of use...wrong.
The price for the service wasn't too bad, but you have to be careful they don't nickel and dime you for additional unwanted services. I've heard bad stories lately, though.

The price is pretty ok. I never had to call the support team, so I have no experince regarding that. The uptime is arround 97.8%, not 99.99..
The beginning was smooth when I didn't have any obvious issues. But then I started having issues such as I uploaded a CSS file but it was not updated on the server. It appeared to be updated on www.mysite.com, and then not on http://mysite.com or vice versa. It was confusing and frustrating. So I called up tech support, and found out that their tech support representatives were completely ignorant about what the real issue was.
I did a test to demonstrate the problem. I created a CSS class called ".white" and had "color: white" in it, applied it to some text; then I switched it to "color: black," and it shows that the changes do not show up on my site after I uploaded my file. After reading through their own tutorials on this issues, and Googling for an hour, I was never able to resolve the issue. After close inspection to their PHP.ini settings, I realized the nightmare of old and outdated 'standards' and was quickly on my way to tech-support.
After a wasteful 20 minutes with 'tech', they deferred me to a 'higher up'. Unfortunately, I can't wait around for a 'higher up', and have had to give up hope with Fatcow.
Customer Service is Good, but are not knowledgeable in anything past a DNS issue. Pricing is fair, but issues are not.
"Connection Problems Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later."
I have reinstalled simple machines 5 times. I contacted there support and they told me to use there single click installer. I did that and it still failed. My ticket was put to level 2 support they fixed it. The problem has come back over and over again.
I can setup mysql, apache and php. I don't see any reason as to why this is happening. I have asked if I could use another sql server. I've gotten no over and over again. There support techs have been very nice but haven't been able to fix a thing. I like there site, I like the price, I like everyone I have talked to.

First thing, the only pages on my website that work at all are html based. I spent the first 3 days agonizing over what I thought were improperly installed databases, so I called in some help from my brother in law. Finally after several chats with tech support and a total database and file manager wipe we managed to produce 3 working installed databases (beware files in the file manager like to hang on and you often get errors when attempting to delete things and you always have to delete your databases manually and do clean installs of everything if a problem occurs. so be prepared to ask for reset help).
Next the trials and tribulations of installing and debugging your site. Well good luck on this one. If you intend to use anything other than html pages it is a nightmare. I have been talking to support staff throughout the last two weeks trying to resolve the issue and NOTHING has been done.. they have "escalated" the issue to a senior specialist or something of the sort..
I mean a two year old could accept a paypal payment in a few minutes!!!!..
after reading some of these reviews I am having second thoughts about using them.. they obviously have the look and the pricing but apart from that they seem to be pretty rubbish..
1 year later, I get an invoice from fatcow, and after investigating why, it turns out they had been helping themselves to my credit card!!!
So I canceled the service again in May, and received several emails from them confirming it had been canceled this time.
Now, I have just received more invoices from them for exactly the same thing. They are attempting to bill me for another years service for a cost of USD98!!!
I've sent them several emails and they refuse to connect to Live chat which I have been trying for the past hour and no one is picking up the conversation.

as I continue to have an unreachable or broken joomla site, I proceed with further details on actions taken from my side:
1) error opening: www.mysite.com
2) I successfuly changed ns1, ns2 at the registrar
3) I went to Control panel -> Domain Pointing Manager: mysite.com subdirectory points to /dira/ or /dirb/ depending on which site I want to test (see step 4)
4) I uploaded different versions of my site from localhost:
a. all joomla files without Akeeba Backup module to directory "dira"
b. all joomla files contained in Akeeba Backup archive "site-localhost-20100512-105400.zip" after successful installation of the module, backing my site up and uploading the .zip file to "/stats"
5) I created database "mysitedba" for case 4a and "mysitedbb" for case 4b with user "dbuser" and password "ghVb78Urw3" for both databases from [read more...]
Well, 28 hours and $75 later absolutly nothing had been done!
Finally I had to fix it myself by forwarding all of the emails to another working account, deleting the box and stating over.

Within days of getting my site up and running, I was having problems. Email has been in and out close to weekly. In the almost 3 months I've been a customer, my site has been down at least half that time for no apparent reason.
Once, I performed a backup using their "easy" "suggested" method, only to lose critical data and somehow corrupt files I hadn't touched. By the time I realized where the issues were, they couldn't help me because they don't hold on to anything more than three days.
Worse, it takes them 72 hours to respond to a service ticket in the first place! Coincidence? I'm guessing not.

Fat Cow has a money back guarantee but I warn you they do NOT stand behind it. They advertise a 99% up time and that isn't true. My partner and I also noticed that when the site went down we couldn't get through to service with out a long wait and they have hold for their customer service chat.
Always they said it was our issue and tried to sell us on more packages and more add on features.
Once upon a time i used fatcow.com and it was bad really bad.
-> database errors
-> slow connection
-> server is unavailable or not reachable
b.) server doesn't support resuming
c.) Important: verify the billing console!
d.) Support "LiveChat" is useless! Callcenter without any knowledge.
Everytime the same bla bla bla.
"We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you."
e.) Make a backup of your database: i lost my 4times in 1week !!

Over the last couple of years I have endured the worst service by Globat. So I figured things couldn´t get worse, their mistakes were an anomaly, so I didn´t move my account to another host - WRONG. Mistakes are the norm.

The default e-mail client is AtMail but FatCow is using an extremely outdated version. FatCow also provides Horde and Squirrel mail. These were $4 a month extra when I signed up, but I think they are now free and the user can switch clients at will. None of these are what I would consider as really decent e-mail clients. They all allow for SMPT and IMAP.
There have been at least two times where the servers went down. Once was supposedly caused by a power outage. Apparently they have no backup power generators.

Our Network operations team was able to identify and resolve the conflict causing this problem. Going forward, we may need to restart some of the SQL servers to completely resolve this issue, but that should only cause a brief period of time when your site cannot connect to your database. SALES - will sale you anything but will not backup anything.
ACCOUNT - billing and account are clues in each dept and with each other's dept.
I ended up having to file criminal charges against Eric in the Business Dept (MA) and Calvin the PHX call center (AZ) for return of my monies. I am fed up with corporations stealing my money, then refusing to return it, then if I finally get them on a tort in the law, then they fee up the refund where as I do not get my money.

On the first month you'll get a very fast query respond but after that you'll need to wait longer, 20 - 35 minutes to reach the tech team.

Not sure, my problems aren't solved yet. I have no visitor but my website is down due to mysql open connection problem.

For those who are trying to use fatcow, Here's the worst fatcow biggest problem:
1. Email sending/receiving absolutely 99.9% slow
2. don't plan to use MySQL. You'll get 'to many open connection' err so often.
3. No cronjobs
4. Apache access_log not accurate
5. use basicstate.com to monitor your web, you'll see that everyday your website will go down on its knees (4 - 9 hours) !!!
I found their advertising misleading with regards to "domain for life" feature. Also, the free website creator (CM4all - limited version) had features (such as a media page) missing but this is not clear when you sign up for the deal. CM4all is billed as very user friendly but there were many questions for me as a novice. Questions that the customer support staff were extremely rude about answering.
I just requested a refund and expect them to give me less than a full refund. I'll be out of a certain amount of money for something that was time-consuming and frustrating. How stupid is that?
NEVER give any of these low cost hosting companies your credit card number.
Tech support denies there is a problem and refused to fix anything.

Setting up MySQL connectivity to the site is impossible - I spent countless hours trying to tinker with the PHP settings and on the phone/chat/email with customer support to find out why I could not access my databases from my website. The customer support was awful and marked my issue as "resolved" without having fixed a thing. I ended up switching all my code to a SQLlite database.
Today, I tried adding FTP users to no avail - I get an unexplained error that prevents me from doing so.
I would never use FatCow, but the non-profit who I manage the page for had already paid for their services. I would not recommend FatCow to anyone hosting a page requiring any level of dynamic content - a blog, etc.
Look to GoDaddy, LunarPages, or even Site5 instead.
They have turned into SCAM ARTISTS.
