My original provider sold their company to this umbrella, and the functionality was fine overall but customer service was an exercise in pulling teeth. The office hours are limited, the offices are in India, or you only speak with people in India, and front line service is designed to say "No" to anything that makes closing accounts or moving them possible. The adminstrator panel allows basically everything but cancelling your account, and you can't even remove your credit card info via the site when the offices are closed. Rates are too high for this business/hosting model, and if you want to get anything done, especially in terms of relocating your hosting, you'll probably have to yell at or verbally confront the front line service. Twice I was told "No," I can't do that, and had it turn out that "Yes," it could be done, but only if I berated the CS rep first. That's a poor business model.
I am a published author who had her site hosted by Freeservers with the business pricing plan. After more than four years of being their customer, they deleted my website without warning. I called up and was told the problem would be escalated and would take 24-72 hours to fix. I called back the next day and was told that it was deleted for "TOS violations". No details or further explanation given even after I requested it, and I have to call up a company in Australia to transfer over the nameservers so I can have my site back.
In addition, their tech and customer support is horrible; they barely speak English and you have to repeat yourself over and over again because they can't understand you.
Years ago this company was amazing, a good bang for your buck and you got back replies in record time from people who could speak English and they took care of you. Unfortunately the economy must've hit them hard because they've outsourced everything, and the quality shows. I had [read more...]

Late last year I was monitoring the access to some new pages, and wondering why the counters were not working. I investigated and found that the fscount.js file had what looked like corrupted entries.
The updating mechanism was opening the file, locating the respective counter line, extracting the current value, increasing this by one, modifying the line to the new value, and then saving the file. All simple stuff. And this process is something that should have coped with concurrent updates as different pages were accessed at the same time. I've had continually email problems with receiving and sending mail through my outlook. I call technical support and get little to no help.
I am now switching to another hosting company!
Most recently, I wasn't able to add another email address due to some glitch on their end. Sounds simple, right? Not to the customer support people. After several emails back and forth they were finally able to understand the problem. After a few more, they were able to fix it--but in the process they deleted the main email address that had been up for 10 years.
I finally called phone support and they were incredibly unhelpful. After two weeks I'm still waiting for them to fix a problem they created themselves.
I don't think their technical and customer support people know or care about fixing anything. [read more...]
I found their website build system to be incredibly easy albeit a little inflexible, but with creativity you can work around this to get a nice looking site without any knowledge of web design tools.
I used their email forwarding system to create email addresses which are linked to our site and after 7 years spread around our members in the UK. The problem came when I needed to change the forwarding addresses to a new provider (for me) and it was impossible to edit, change, remove/replace any of these.
Their customer service is appalling and this seems totally linked to moving the service to India where they don't seem to have the expertise or resource to resolve this. I had my site hosted with them for years and then they transferred it to "mysite.com"... No problem, right? Since they're both owned by the same company, United Online (the same company that owns Juno, netzero, and a few others)
Well the problem is the customer service is outsourced to India or pakistan or somewhere else that the people barely speak any english. I've spent days emailing them and calling them about my website being down, and I still haven't gotten it resolved.
All I keep getting is the customer "lack of service" reps telling me they will look into it immediately. I'm not sure what immediately means over in India, but here in the USA, 3 days (and waiting) is NOT immediate, and it's NOT acceptable when you're trying to run a small business that depends on its website for marketing.

Okay, so it got fixed and resubmitted, and my website was turned back on. No, wait, they turned it off, saying the credit card had a problem with it, and I said no it didn't, that I had a receipt from them that it went through, which it had, according to my credit card company. I pay $23.00 a month for the hosting but have spent over 2 hours on the phone with them in the last month alone.... they have cost me over $300 in my own time, lost revenue and much aggrevation.
I DO NOT RECOMMEND FREESERVERS to anyone. I am in the process of trying to find another HOST to move to.
FREESERVERS might want to get their customer service back and fix their system.
Also.. my site has been shut down twice in the last month because their accounting office does not know how to keep track of payments. I paid twice in 15 days for my site and they still say the payments have not been made.
I guess you can tell my frustration.
If I get to the manage mailbox section of their site at all I don't even have mailboxes! The two I had set up are gone along with my 200 or so emails. I was expecting some important emails and am not happy about this. I called three times and was told they were working on the problem. They are not "open" on the weekend. I have been getting the following message:Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request, or WARNING: Internal Module Compilation Failure!
Does anyone know what this means?

Imap email is working fine, as is the webmail option, but no smtp relay.

The worst service I have ever come across.
Freeservers.com is total waste of time, keep away from this.
Customer service is pretty much non-existent.
When you call their main number 801-437-6000 you drop into a loop that apologizes that "we're having system issues."
Yeah, I guess. They are apparently ALWAYS having system issues.
No one has answered my email about the problem yet, and I'm pretty pissed off right now.
When you go to log into your account, all it says is
WELCOME TO YOUR FUTURE WEB SITE CREATOR
You have not yet published your website.
Big freakin surprise, I can't even edit it, let alone publish it.
Thats ALL that's on the screen once you log in, no clickable links, no nothing.
Go back, and there's just the log in screen again. No links to edit anything, no help at all, their site map looks like a half-assed /html/blahblahblah/ itemized crap screen with no FAQ's.
I bought it a week ago, and I'm wishing I would have just gone with some other server who actually practices what they preach.
Don't waste your money!
In 2006 I grew up to discover and clean all the mess: since the beginning (2001) they took of $5/month instead of $3. Now at 2006 they started to take $6/month. Just like that, without any notice and explanation.
This time he mailed them asking for explanation, however all they wrote back was "we do not disclose financial information by mail". Later I looked for other reviews of freeservers and it occurs that it's their auto-responce to any financial question or request :-\
Since he pays by VISA, he can't do anything against this fraud, and now we'll have to cancel his VISA card so these freeserers scammers won't be able to charge him again >:-(]

In addition, it's often hard to access via FTP and the features that actually work aren't advanced enough for good and efficient web site creation, and their control panel is confusing, with links that go nowhere and an oddly structured configuration. You don't get what you should for what you pay for, either.

After two calls to their billing department without answer, three emails to email@example.com and two to firstname.lastname@example.org without any answer, we migrated to computinghost.com, which works very well so far.
