Do not take any shared hosting products/services with 123-reg, especially if you are using joomla3! It is stupidly slow and their response is.. "it is your code".. its not my code.

123.reg are not fit for purpose. They abuse data protection of customer details. Ask for passwords, access your data and use your credit card without permission. Never use. They have no cancellation procedure. The only way i could get rid of them was by involving a fraud team. Buyer Beware!!!

Just had a terrible experience with the domain name company 123 Reg which has cost me £235, considerable man hours, and much anguish.
It began when I logged on to Paypal three days ago to find that £344 had come straight out of the bank card I have registered with the account for personal purchases (ie not my business). I discovered it had gone to a company called 123 Reg (Webfusion Limited).
As I had not the slightest idea who they were I contacted Paypal, which initiated its disputes procedure. In the meantime I contacted 123 Reg and discovered that they held the domain names of my two work websites plus a whole host of other ones which my former partner had purchased two years ago.
Unbeknown to me she had given my Paypal account as some sort of back up behind the credit card she used to buy these domain names for 1-2 years. Because we have gone out separate ways the cards were no longer active - as was the business email account linked to the account.

I was treated the worst I have been treated by any customer service. I had my website for over 2 months and could not get it to work . There customer service returned my email a grand total of 6 times before they sent me an internet link to help me and then they stopped returning my emails.
When I gave up and decided to cut my loses and go somewhere else. I tried to log in and found out my account had been suspended. When I phoned and finally got through I was told it was because I was abusive to one of their staff members. Apparently telling them that there are many unhappy people is abusive.
Now I cant even get my domain information and they wont return my emails.

I accidentally transfered domain and hosting to 123-reg.co.uk. It was a nightmare. No support and no refund. They just keep promising what you want but nothing happened.
Owned this domain for over 2 years and registered it in the name of a customer. Even renewed it in the 12th January 2011.
19th January 2011, I find it missing from my control panel as 1-2-3-reg simply decided to GIVE that domain to my customer with NO checking from me NOR any recompense for the renewal fees. I will be raising this matter with Nominet but I am moving all my hsoting from 1-2-3-reg as they cannot be trusted.
Taking a domain off a paying customer to give it to someone else defies belief!
Initially things were pretty stable – we did not actually have any problems to be dealt with by Support. However cver the past couple of years we have begun to encounter service issues and have had a number of occassions where we have had to deal with their “Support” (I do use this word in the loosest sense ) team…
We have now found that FOUR of our own corporate domains have not been Auto-Renewed (as they were set to.)
To cut a long story short we have today been advised that
“…The auto renewal process is not a guaranteed service that we offer. We take the payments at an unusual time therefore some banks can decline the payment from being taken. Also, at the time of auto renewals we might fail to take payment from your card. We do advise all of our customers that they need to check that there package has auto renewed to make sure they are not loosing there domains or services.”

What a shower of dunces this lot are.
We have been an affiliate for 8 years and got paid regularly until 2 years ago.
We have registered over 1000 domains with them for our clients over the years which all qualified for affiliate commission. Now they say they will not pay fees due since 2008 nor will they supply full details of all transactions.
Support tickets (lots of them) get canned replies and managers to whom we have spoken to on the telephone NEVER call back despite promising to do so.
Their Affiliate manager must be figment of their imagination.
Have spent enough money trying to talk sense to someone in the their support team without sucess.
We don't need the money (and never will). The fees may be minimal but it is the principal involved that makes me continue hounding them.
We are currently moving all domains to another provider, 50% completed already.

I have submitted hundreds of tickets to them and have had no response. I don't think they ever planned on giving me the hosting. They take the money and then never answer my tickets.
This is fraud. suing them is in order now! May be little money but there taking money and keeping our bank details!
I've been caught by their 'affiliation scheme' - recommend a customer and they'll pay commission.
Total Lies! Recommend a customer and they'll pull every excuse in the book to NOT pay commission.
1. They must setup account and buy package at same time. (They Did!)
2. You cant buy package for your own use and get commission. (I wasn't!)
3. Commissions added automatically. (They're not!)
My first query / complaint about this started early in Feb.
Cant get to speak to anyone, support queries get closed when they're not answered.
Answers dont even address the questions....The support staff dont read the questions before picking a standard answer to reply with.

I called them last week to cancel an old hosting package and was on hold for half an hour on their premium rate number before I hung up. Never got to speak to anyone.
Then I used their support site (a misnomer if ever there was one) to tell them I couldn't get through by phone to cancel and that I expressly forbid them to take money out of my account the following week. They replied, asking if I was sure, then closed the line of communication. So I got in touch again, telling them 'cancel the hosting, do not take money from my account and I do not give permission for you to hold my card details and never have'.

IF you ever get a CV from anyone whos worked at 123-reg BIN it, these chaps are useless.
Business with 123-reg is like sliding down razor blades.
Stay away from these amateurs.
They are thiefs introducing an auto renew setup without ensuring proper notice and obtaining acknowledgment. It must contravene the law and good practice.
I have been supid enough to stay with this company for just over a year whilst starting a new business. They have caused moor sleepless nights than anything else.
Multiple faults with emails, website dissapearing, completely useless support who just close your questions despite them being unresolved. Misinformation from staff, the list goes on and on and on.
They really are the worst company I have ever encountered, I would give them less than 1 star if I could.
I would rather pay more and recieve customer service, that pay less for a "work it out yourself" or search our articles.
All I can say is "what a wast of time."
Have now had to resort to a friend to host my website and indeed will NEVER use 123 reg again. Waste of time, money and business. Contact and customer support is absolutely useless.
I'm probably £700 out of pocket because I bought a dedicated server package
from them that I expected I would have full control over. No such thing.
I cannot install the software that I need and the server is useless to me.
I called their call center after numerous attempts through the control panel (which was useless) and waited 40 mins (remember - I'm being charged 10p per minute to listen to music while I wait). Eventually I get through and subsequently I am told I will be contacted.
This never happened.
After sending about 100 messages through the control panel, I finally get told its because I have set up my DNS record incorrectly. This is of great interest to me as I have never touched the DNS records.
Either way, you will have to be plain stupid to use 123-reg to do anything for you.
(I still haven't resolved the issue).
Although I regard myself as being pretty thick-skinned, I find Grumpy's final "death wish" comments extremely unpleasant and offensive. Whoever runs this review board should remove the post as it represents the ravings of a sick individual.
Being able to run a DNS server is basic to hosting, and this is clearly beyond them. May they all die of cancer. Slowly and painfully.
I made the mistake of trying to set up another quick hosting package with 123-reg for a client the other day and although I was billed the account was not set up at all. I know I will never get anything back from 123 so have simply moved my business elsewhere. Again I am out of pocket. I will never use 123 again.

Now I find that one of my sites has vanished altogether from google. I decided to investigate. I find that I can't create a sitemap for ANY of my sites, & the googlebot spider simulator can't see any of the sites at all.
No wonder they're all disappearing off the search engines.
Worst of all the "123 support" (now THERE's a good joke) doesn't work - click it & the page doesn't exist. I've had a bout 3 more major problems since my last post (see below), including the websites not showing if you typed in the URL (pretty fundamental, eh?) & they haven't answered or resolved ANY of them.
So thats it. I'm swapping the lot to Daily.co.uk, I've started tonight. I spoke to Daily & it was like a breath of fresh air - real people who CARE & who know what they're talking about.
I had a long conversation with the guys there and got the scope that they all left when things went downhill after the sale to pipex and set up in competition. It's like coming back home to people who know what they are talking about. There products are similar to 123 but appear to have a higher spec. Definitely an improvement on the control panel. I also got this online drive thing for free with my domain transfers. Wasn't too sure what to do with it but that got me playing with it nad its fab product. I can store my files online securely and can share part of the drive with different people. I am really pleased
Anyway, for domain registration I have found them OK until now, I have 2 domains that are due to expire in November so yesturday I went to renew them. I paid a total of £13.58 for two domains to be renewed for 2 years. When I then checked the domains in the control panel they still showed as being due to expire in November 2007, ie had not been renewed. I double checked my bank to confirm the payment went through and it had.

So i did what had to be done, move the domains ! I have spread my domains and hosting to other providers like 1and1, UK2.net, Names.co.uk, Daily.co.uk and UK reg. Interestingly, i found out that Daily.co.uk is actually formed by all the former staff of 123reg before the pipex takeover. I did this a long time ago, whilst I was frantically moving all hosting elsewhere. Some of my domains are still registered with 123-reg, but I wouldn't trust this lot as far as I could chuck a grand piano.
The thing that has really p'd me off, is that when you host a site with them, or even it seems just register a site, they *give* you 10 *free* pop3 mailboxes per site. No biggie, I don't use them, so have never paid any attention to them.
However, this week I got money debited from my account for 15 thats FIFTEEN pop3 mailboxes renewed at £9.96 each plus VAT - a total of £175!!! I have another EIGHTY FIVE of these bl**dy boxes that they *gave* me, & I can't get rid of them.
Now, apart from the fact that they *gave* these to me for *free*, and apart from the fact that I don't want or use them, & apart from the fact that I can't seem to cancel them, do they SERIOUSLY expect me to *give* them over £1000 per year for NOTHING!!

By the way their contact page used to have a contact phone number to speak to someone but now it looks like they've now redirected their contact page links to go to the 123-support site where the only way you can contact someone is with an email form and from past experience they take about 2 weeks to reply to those messages. And then it's usually a standard question about your problem, so send off another reply, wait another length of time you get the idea. So as long as you aren't running a business and don't have anything urgent on your sites then you might be okay.

I wish i had seen these reviews before i bought my package. There has to be far easier options out there!
We are part of a large UK University and have used 123-Reg and the parent company Pipex, both for domain registeration and web hosting for a range of university projects. For a particular project, we used the Site Builder Package, and this has performed generally fine over the past two years or so. It's 'idiot guide' to website design is user friendly and simple, if not limited, but offers busy people easy access to website design and hosting.
However, over the past several months, 123-Reg Pipex have 'lost' or 'corrupted' data, which has resulted in an older version of our website being shown, despite much time and effort having being spent on an updated version. The current website is showing a version seven months out of date. This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. We understand some customers have lost websites altogether, due to incompetence by 123-Reg Pipex.

I used their SiteBuilder to build and host my business web site and it ranks as one of the worst business mistakes I have ever made.
The service is so bad they can only be trying to run it down with a view to getting rid of clients contracted to services they no longer wish to supply.
They don't answer the phone . If you do happen to get through you get cut off.
If you manage to speak to someone who promises to phone you back they don't.
They should be avoided at all costs.
A year or so ago I wrote to their head office asking for compensation in respect of lost business as a result of their failure to keep my business web site up and running - they never even bothered to reply.
This month my site has been down again for at least 5 days so far.
In 30 years in business I have not come accross worse service

i am very very new to web design and hosting - i've learned some basic and medium stuff very quickly. but thanks to my experience with 123 its become very frustrating.
all i need to do is set up a form on my site, something simple that e-mails me the results... i have read the patheitc help screens, i have had a go - recieved errors, i e-mailed support and got a very confusing response (but at least i got a response) i had another go and got no where fast so re e-mailed and explaining that the support pages weren't helping - what did i get back a pasted response with the entire support page!!!

How many people are actually losing business because of this apalling service? Not just emails, what about web form enquiries? Are they all disappearing into the ether?
I've put 5 for Price and Control Panel, but I suppose they should both be 1? Not much point having something cheap or having a simple control panel if the service doesn't work.

I ended up waiting for hours before my mobile battery ran out, so i had no choice but to send them a e-mail, of which to my suprise they replied after only 4 hours, and told me i'll be refunded. But some how i still have the domains in my account???
Well hopefully the problem will be solved, and thinking about how much my phone bill will be.

but the service is now absolutely appalling. No replies to emails. After 8 days of no response. I called pipex customer services. I was assured my case would be escalated and taken to a supervisor.

What has happened to reg-123? I have registered domains with them for 5 years but they have gone into serious 'Don't give a sh*t about customers' mode. I bought domains from them recently yet my (different) host can only see some of them. Will they answer queries about this by email? Will they f*ck. Will they answer the phone? I waited over 60 minutes, then got cut off. What do you do when one of these companies does this? Who can you complain to?

The support seems to be designed to drive one mad. If you keep things simple they won't understand and return stock answers. If you try to describe everything in detail they just won't read it. Eventually they will turn rude and sarcastic.

I have been with easyspace for two years. Easyspace were trying to charge me £30 to renew my .co.uk and i got annoyed about this because they were charging new customers £9.50 for the same privellege. I contacted them and they assured me it would be changed but it wasnt and i just wanted it sorted so after paying £15 to get each of my two domains moved across to 123 i thought ok now it should be all sorted.
Up to then 123 were replying to my emails pretty quickly. As soon as it was transfered and i had emailed them to notify them of this the emails stopped coming. I had already had the problem of their system not accepting my credit card and no pending transfers being shown on their computer. I tried calling a few times and like it is stated here no one picks up. I have sent them a final email in the hope i can cancel the transfer if it hasnt been conducted and asked my old hosting company if i can move back to them!

It's fine if you never use your domain name. God help you if you want anything changed.
Support is non - existent. - pnone lines jammed. the control panel does not work.
An absolute shameful disgrace. I am furious at them for wasting my time- god knows how I get out of this mess and transfer somewhere else smoothly.
Then follow their instructions and it does not work, contact them and they promise they will send a response to your email box, they don't they post it on the site wilthout telling you. But what they post is the set of instructions you have already used that DON'T EFFING WORK!!! THen you don't hear from them again. Their CEO is Mike Reid and I am going to find out his home address so he can read my complaints and I should copy the whole of this page over his effing breakfast.

The 123Reg control panel is better than most, but when problems occur (and they frequently do), or you need to contact some one then forget it.
Their customer support is non-existant and I have had to threaten them with going to Trading Standards in order to get a response from them.
My advice: Avoid 123Reg like the plague. They may be cheap, but as a result you end up just buying trouble. Spend an extra £5 and host elsewhere.
123Reg will happily take your money and fail to deliver.
As has been stated, do not respond to emails and actually ROB YOUR MONEY. They billed me twice for a domain which did not register properly and will not reply to any emails. I rang their customer "support" but was on hold for AN HOUR AND A HALF before finally hanging up.
And there customer *ahem* "service" is appalling - they don't respond to e-mail, EVER, forcing you to call their incompetent customer service reps who are surly and rude at 10p per minute - and of course this number (no matter what time of day, or day of the week you call) is ALWAYS 'inundated with an unusually high volume of calls', which they tell you could lead to a wait of 25 minutes - which is always more like 50 minutes before you finally get through to one of the jerks at their customer service centre.

Worst of all is the pop email service. I've a customer who's mail works OK until 9AM. From then until 5.30/6PM it's a lucky day if popping the boxes every 30 minutes pulls mail more than twice - plenty of errors though. And I know it's not his system as trying to telnet directly to the 123 pohost box gives the same woeful response during the same times.
Another cusomer bought a 12 month pop box for £12 and it never, ever worked. In the end, no point in chasing a resolution as it's not just worth it for £12 - of course, if everyone takes this attitude it's a nice way to make easy money. For that experience alone I go with other people's views here that this bunch are crooks.

Finally, on the third day after waiting for 30min i got through and spoke to a rep caled Ray.
I was told that the domain name had been paid for but it was in quarentine and i shall have ful access to it within 24hrs.
What the fuck ! do you think i have time to waste waiting 30 mins for you to answer my phone call Ray...?
123-reg are very clever, they reduce the cost of the calls from 50p to 10 p and make u wait for a long time. So at the end of the day they are still making lots of money from you call.
The total length of waiting time i had to wait for was 30 mins and the total time i spent talking to Ray was 2mins !

I called acouple of days ago and was told that there was a 25 min waiting time, it was a local rate number at the time but i hung up. I have sent 3 emails since and no response and just looked up the number to call again and it is now 10p per minute.
Where can you complain to?,
Like most large British companies their staff is made up of incompetent management who are using the company as legalised theft and stroppy so called Customer Support representitives who hate the customers and regard you as nothing more than an obstacle between themselves and their wage packet.
For 6 MONTHS 123-Reg has failed to answer any of my e-mails and as they have only recently lowered their 50 pence a minute line to 10 pence a minute I finally thought it was worth calling.
25 minutes I'm on hold for!!! I timed it.
Then a Customer Service representitive comes on the line. At first I'm fairly businesslike as I want the problems I'm having with my control panel sorted out. They now have a fancy new website and a new support system and all of a sudden things have gone wrong.
I registered a domain with them that they havent actually registered, i paid to transfer in a .com which is no longer appearing in my pending list or in the list of my domains and now they have just changed their policy on IPS tags - i am trying to add a domain to my CP but only to be told i must use the 123-reg tag. Fair enough but i have ALWAYS used HOSTEUROPE tag. My domain is now lost somewhere in the ether!
Getting a response out of their support is impossible.
I have been waiting for a response to my support requests for about 3 weeks and nothing. Its simply pathetic.

I have about forty domain names with them and attempted to transfer two .com's to them in November of last year. They charged me the £11.74 each for the pleasure of seeing the two domain names in the 'pending transfer' screen and it failed on three occasions. I was allowed to retry at no extra cost, but today I look at my control panel to check the status, they've updated their transfers interface and my two domains have disappeared. No refund, no transfer, no clue as to what they have done.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. For fear of ranting too much, they took payment for purchase of a .co.uk domain in February which never appeared in my control panel, sending 5 emails at three weekly intervals (for fear of having my question ignored if I pestered too much) asking for a refund resulted in no response and no refund.

I have now moved the majority of my own and my clients' sites, so I sleep a lot easier at night.
It was back in December when I was promised that "things would be sorted" in the New Year. Well, it ain't happened, and I don't suppose it ever will!

Despite numerous emails I'm still waiting to this day for a reply.
At the the begining of February I moved both sites to IXhosting where the facilities are much more for your money and their customer service has been excellent. The only correspondence i have had with 123, is them telling me my hosting packages are up for renewal. Shame that i've already made my decision.
123 have payed the price for poor customer service
Email, and on site contact forms get no response - must be time to vote with my feet, have contacted my VISA company and instigated a refund on failing to supply goods and will re-purchase said address with another company.
What on earth has gone wrong with them?

The list goes on and on and on...
Today I had had enough! I rang them up, told them I had had enough and explained why. The technical guy had a look at my site, saw what I was talking about and agreed that the site was not suitable to use for a small business or anybody wanting to sell anything.
Strange really, because you can add your Paypal account to the shopping cart?!
Anyway, they agreed to refund all my money, being that the site is difficult to use.

I bought several domains last year with the 123-reg basic hosting package. Have had numerous delays getting support.
Firstly emails went missing when their mail server went down which took them a while to fix so I had to get another email address to use. Seems to be working okay again now so okay fair enough, from experience any hosting company I've been involved with has had problems from time to time.
Then I emailed them with a domain question and it took a couple weeks to get a reply which I think is too long for support.
Now a customer has informed me that a Perl script which runs my contact form on my site has stopped working (I haven't changed it in the last couple of months). I don't know how long it's been like that so I might have lost business sales because of it.

As a result - the monthey spent (over £100.00) in just registering the Domain and obtaining hosting has been totally wasted.
I cannot call them as they are only open 9 to 5 (and no weekends) - I cannot get to a phone as I have no access to the premium line that they force me to use. They have not answered any of my help requests.
I agree that something needs to be done. This feels like a total rip off
Ther instructions are unclear and do not assist at all. I have joined several web forums to seek outside assistance and have been told time and time again that I should be asking for my money back.
Anyone know which Ombudsman would be best to refer/complain to?
First, they auto renewed a domain and hosting i did not want. The 123-reg renewal notices do not say you have to take direct action to 'allow domains to expire'. They do however ask you to take direct action if you WANT to renew. I presumed i needed do nothing and so i just left them. Next minute they took payment (my details are stored) and auto renewed both hosting and domain.
I complained the process isnt clear, they argued it IS clear and pointed me to the t&c's. They refused a refund. Basically saying its my responsibility to make myself aware of the processes.
I was annoyed at the attitude but after some thought, I decided to re-use the domain and hosting and set about building the new content. I emailed 123-reg and told them i would be re-using it. Putting it down to experience. They could have had it nipped in the bud here, but no...

Have been trying to renew my e-mail defence that they supply as an extra to hteir POP mail boxes.
It expired on Feb 14, I had no e-mail warning me it was about to expire, their site says I have nothing that needs renewing, and no one at support or admin, or heldesk, or services or accounts ever reply to e-mails sent. Not even a reply from the support page.
It is now the 3rd March, and after 10 or more e-mails still not had a reply from them.
Will be going else where in future, they are crap
Has anyone taken this to Trading Standards? I see 123's performance as the best definition of "not fit for purpose" I've seen during a very long engineering career.
Thankfully, I kept one domain variant in reserve. This will be going to 1&1 and I will point the 3 123 domains at that site
Since then 2 days of sending increasingly frustrated emails through their "support" page. No action. No reply. No contact at all.
Googling for "123-reg s**t" gave 1680 results and this page was the top of the list. I see I am not receiving special treatment from our good friends at 123-reg. I only wish I'd found this page before I bought anything from them.
I have had domain names from 123 for for about 5years and after hosting my own webpage on a .mac account I decided to do a better job. So I purchased theirwebhosting and payed near on £50 for the year.
As i got all my details sent through I saw my 'ftp' address was rather long winded. I didn't want to give out a complicated address to my clients. It worked out to be 'ftp://email@example.com:21' which i had no way of knowing.
I emailed 123 to see how I could fix this,as I needed it be similar to 'ftp://myname.co.uk '(Any other ftp account I access is like this). My e.mail also questioned why my 'Point Domain at Website' was still ref my old temp page I had hosted elsewhere!!
The reply I got was very basic-

Emails are not coming through again. Yes, I've contacted "support" (but who knows when they'll reply, if at all), but the 123-reg site still says 123-reg are not experiencing any problems currently. Looking at recent additions to this review page, it seems other folks are still experiencing problems too.
I've started moving stuff to www.lunarpages.com in the USA (even though I'm based in the UK). Toll free 24/7 'phone support and email requests answered promptly - the sort of service we simply don't get from 123-reg.
We have a contact with plus.net for broadband, e-mail and domains names. its a good little deal very fast on the support, some times they go down, but there support is great they tell you everything that’s gone wrong on a stats page.
I made a site for someone using streamline.net everything worked fine domain name, ftp and emails. One year on it takes about an hour to download two files from there ftp site.

I brought the name for a contract job so I need access all day. When I first loged on I thought my internet was not working the control panel on there is so slow it timeout most of the time. Email setup support is bad but there do work. I can not access my FTP at all, I have tried 4 different apps dreamwever, SmartFTP Client 2.0, AceFTP 3 and something else. I have had numerous problems including a domain name that I owned being un usable for months due to their incompetence!.They even Lied to me on more than one occassion that transfers were in progress. They should take 24-48 hours but 2 months later.......nothing!
They also managed to put my domains in other peoples control panels.
Do yourself a favour DON'T USE THEM! It may look appealing but as soon as something goes wrong (AND IT WILL!) You will get ZERO support and that's if they respond at all!
If there are any tools that I have maybe missed, maybe you could tell me.

I have used 123 reg for quite a while and have always been happy with them... but this email cockup is unacceptable... somebody from 123reg might have alerted us to the problem
If you purchase a domain watcher there is no control in the control panel to set it up.
When contacting their customer services by email they never reply until about 2 weeks later, always claiming that they have had a high number of emails.
Most problems I contact them about would be very important or time critical (domain nearly expired etc). so end up having to contact their 090 premium rate 50p a minute line.
What a con, feels like they keep us waiting for email response and so we then HAVE to phone the premium rate line.
Will be changing soon to ukreg but not uk2 as they are worse.
However on 28th Nov 2006 I purchased a hosting for it from 123-reg. It was obvious from the start that there was some problem with the setup as the control panel gave a system error when I tried to access the file store. Also I didn't get the email saying what I should do for ftp access. They did send me the email with the name and password after a few days but did nothing about the problems. I tried doing FTP and it rejected the username and password.
I sent various emails and filled forms on their site and after two weeks I got an automated email saying I should say 123-Pending on the subject line and they might then look at the problem.
I sent more emails and filled forms now asking for my money back. After 4 weeks I got a reply from a human being saying he had tried accessing my website and it worked - did I still want a refund? [read more...]
the domain showed as registered and i could ftp my files within the hour, however, after 48 hours after pointing the domain at the hosting within the control panel, still nothing.
Gave it another 24 hours, nothing.
emailed "support", which was on the 18th December, and got the reply today 30th December!! I know its christmas etc but come on! Easily emailed me back within 10 minutes for petes sake.
Currently now also having problems with my pop emails which were working after setup 4 days ago and have now gone awry.
Ill never use nor recommend this lot again, except for people to stay away!
It seems to me the whole email system at 123-reg is failing horribly. I use firstname.lastname@example.org as my admin contact for 3 domains parked at 123-reg. My auntie uses 123-reg to host a seperate website, and any emails I send her from the above email address gets bounced EVEN THOUGH 123-reg use that email address to administer my account with them and send me notifications and updates, etc. They claim the email address does not pass their filters and checks. WTF?
Support has for sure gone bad. I contacted 123-reg via the webform to get a resolution to the above problem, reply came 3 weeks later. The answer was of no use. I emailed them again last week to close my account (after migrating all my domains to Heart Internet). Maybe the reply will come.

I believe 123-reg have deserved criticism over the last few months. I thought it only right, therefore, that I mention the service I've had over the last 24 hours ...
Yesterday (following numerous emails, a letter and a fax), I had two 'phone calls from Colin at 123-reg. I had stated in my various communications to 123-reg that I was "willing to hang in there" if there was a light at the end of the tunnel, and 123-reg could promise a return to the way things were.
Colin seemed enthusiastic about the future for 123-reg, and even replied within 5 minutes of a support request today.
Colin was extremely helpful, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things are improving. Only time will tell of course, but I am grateful there is someone at 123-reg who seems to care. Let's hope he gets a good team around him and we can indeed return to "the good old days".

Until this year, support was great - a sensible reply to emails often within the hour. Nowadays, you're lucky if you even get an acknowledgement within a few days. On the few occassions you do (eventually) get a reply, it's likely to be useless (e.g. "Have you checked out FAQs" - YES I HAVE, YOU MADE ME DECLARE THAT BEFORE I COULD USE YOUR WEB FORM!)
The recent farce over their email servers was made more infuriating by their automated replies to questions, and these merely pointed to their "Support" page - this page didn't help, and invariably said little more than "We're working on it". None of my questions have been answered, and I still don't know how many emails or enquiries through my web site form have been lost. Incidentally, I still get loads of spam, so what improvements they've made I don't know. The reason I ask is that I have had no end of trouble with their (non-existant) support over the past month or two.
First they withdraw services from their hosting package that I have paid for without any consultation or notice.
Then, I encounter problems where I cannot upload changes to my website.
I sent many emails to their website and even resorted to a paper letter (remember them?) and they have not even had the courtesy to reply. I run a website that generates 90% of its orders at Christmas and I need to be able to update my website on almost a daily basis. I have not been able to update for a month.
When I did an internet search on 123-Reg today. I found many, many adverse comments about them, so I am going to move my hosting in the New Year when orders die down.

It's a real shame that they've so poorly implemented this new spam-filter as I will personally be moving all my domains to a new provider as soon as possible and recommending to all my IT colleagues to do the same.
Even the Hoff can't save them from this mess.
They are extremely cheap for domain name registration but are completely unable to provide even the most basic level of support. If you are a business or are hoping to get an acceptable level of support then avoid them, otherwise you'll get what you pay for.
My major dig is that they recently decided to do something about the level of spam passing through their mail servers. A grand idea, but a big step and one which should be thoroughly tested first. Instead, it would appear that they unleashed their new system, untested, onto their users and were then surprised when it fell over.
The result? I have known missing emails from over a week ago. The first note of a problem appeared on their support site on thursday. An email to them to provide additional information on the problem and to ask some questions that were not answered on the support site received a reply quoting the site verbatim and suggesting that I check the page for updates.

Almost RUBBISH Services.
I use their dedicated server services.
1. Oct 19, I sent some enquiries to this company. they replied me one weeks later.
2. Oct 20 I signed in your web, and place one order int the same day.
3. Oct 23, they replied my order and said my server would be ready in 15 mins . and they charged to my credit card that time.
4. Oct 25, another guy reply my compain wit my order said he will prepar my server shortly.
5. Oct 28, your guy finally prepare my servers. But Never give me my server's remote desktop's acct even i ask so. Not all people use dedicatd server to host website. I cannot use this server at all.you charge me in Oct 23, now it is Oct 29th, I still cannot use the server.
Now it is Nov 29, 2006. I still cannot use my server. and all of them seems disappear.
Rubbish services. Shit company.

This is a heads up warning to all of you that are considering committing yourself to any sort of dealings with 123-reg.
My saga started in March 2006, is still ongoing as of 22 October 2006 and is completely unresolved.
Unwittingly, in March 2006, I called on the services of 123-reg to pre-register many .eu domains on my behalf. In April 2006 I was informed that the majority of my chosen domains were unsuccessful and I would be getting a refund. I was disappointed with the failures but at least I knew I would be getting my money returned.
On 28 April 2006 I received many automated emails from 123-reg informing me that I could set up a credit account for the refunds and that this credit could be used to purchase any of the 123-reg services. I decided to take up this offer as I intended to purchase more domains, InstantSite Pro and web hosting packages.

Website has gone 404, cannot upload files from the 123-Reg control panel, cannot FTP to upload files. Tried the fault 'contact us' form and got no response.
Tried phoning the 0900 50p/minute number and after 5 minutes was told they ould not find the problem. Had one email to say problem had been referred to the tier 2 support team! Still 404.
I don't know if it is the Pipex buyout but service has gone right down hill in the past year. I am now well and truly Pi**ed HOFF and will be Knight Riding my way to another ISP.
They are denying me my affiliate commission now, and say that "I may get it soon".... I am going to transfer away from them...., there is somethign wrong in that company....something big thats wrong with management I reckon.

I resisted putting anything on the server for a week as I wanted to ensure it was reliable. Seemed ok so I started putting sites on.
A week later the server went offline completely. After no less than 15 phone calls at an average of 10 minutes per call over the course of 2 weeks I found out that they had simply cancelled it as it breached their terms and conditions (which it actually didn't, all I was running was a couple of gaming sites !). They refused to tell me which terms and conditions I had alledgedly broken.

I signed up for 123-reg's basic web hosting package and the server they placed my site on had a major problem. Every 15 minutes the server would be offline for 2 minutes. Another issue was the sytem clock was 10 minutes slow. I notified 123-reg with approximately a dozen emails, supports notes etc to various addresses but it was over a month before I got a response which hinted at even looking at the server. All they had done was fix the system clock. - Still offline every 15 minutes. This was not the only period it was offline sometimes it was down for several hours at a time and transfer rates often reached no more than 5KB/s. Needless to say, I moved the site away from 123-reg.
After sending several more emails, and waiting several more months for a response regarding a refund. I was told that there was no service license agreement and no guarantees were given for hosting.

The service is now so unreliable I will be taking my site, and those of at least a dozen of my customers away from 123-reg to another ISP.
Websites hosted with them are extremely slow to respond, and on many occasions become totally unavailable altogether.
Despite many many emails to their support, there is no reply - apart from a generic email they send out (several days after your complaint) stating that they are innundated with calls, and if your problem is not resolved to email them back.
The only time I did get an immediate answer was at 2am with one of their support staff.
I would not recommend hosting your domains with them.
So I rang 123-reg up on their 50p/min support line and asked them to cancel it and refund the money as I had not recieved the service.
They told me that that would be fine but they would have to get a manager to call me back.
I waited.....and waited....and waited, nobody called.
I sent them several emails, to which they responded to none. I phoned pipex, they told me they couldn't help.
3 weeks after that, I recieved an email from them saying that the server had been activated to which I replied that I had cancelled it and that I was still awaiting a refund.
I sent numerous emails after that, about 1 a day, no response as yet except for a couple of auto responders.
Now, I am nearly 2 months on from the initial order of the server, i still havent got my money back.
What should I do about this?

Domain Hosting seems fine if everything works first time but should you have the slightest problem then you can forget any support, They just DONT answer emails!
We are still trying to get them to sort out a problem that happened 10 weeks ago, we have sent at least 40 emails, a couple of faxes, phone calls and finally a letter of complaint to their senior management. AA has been ignored and to this date we still do not have the problem sorted out.
It wouldn't be so bad if they actually responded to an email.
If you had asked me a year ago then I would have recommended 123-REG but now we are in the process of transferring our many domains with them to another company.

They're o.k - much better than some (Ahem - BISCIT, Easily....).
Only real problem i've had involves their 123 reg web forwarding and call staff not admitting the problem for several days - even though they balently knew about it as they had thousands of sites affected.
Do not waste your hard earned money on such a bunch of losers.
My site is still down today as i speak after 4 days of trying to contact them.
They are simply not worth your time for hosting with them if anything goes wrong!
On an annoying side their email forwarding is not very secure, I have been forwarding to an email address that is not used anywhere only from 123-reg and I get spam on that address and from that address so it means some one has hacked them to get this email address as it is NOWhere else but on their email forwarding configuration pages!!!!!
But just wait till something goes wrong and you have to contact support, You can email them but you will NEVER get an acknowledgement of their receipt of your email or any action to fix problems. The only option is to ring their 0900 number at 50pence per minute! What a rip off, especially as they keep you hanging on the line asking irrelivant questions.
