Hostmonster is an overseller
I've been on Hostmonster for over 3 years, and it has been a frustrating experience. They are careful to keep web serving up most of the time, but they let the background functions like email and cgi-bin and Cpanel fall apart. At this moment, email is still down after 2 days. They constantly overload their servers until things break. Then when you complain, they claim that everything looks good at their end, and it must be your fault.

Even when email and MySQL and cgi-bin do work, they work so slowly, because of the overloaded servers, that it is a painful experience of wait, wait, wait.

I have to find a new hosting service.

Hostmonster is so terrible, they shouldn't be allowed to exist, in my opinion. It is fraudulent to create the illusion of easy, consistent hosting, then arbitrarily shut down or change rules that eliminate any benefit in using them. They know how difficult it is to move all hosting from one provider to another and they use this fact to beat on the very people they seek loyalty from. Getting screwed over so many times by their very draconian practices only builds resentment and they absolutely do not care. Nobody should host with this company.

This host type are for Static HTML Sites only .
If you run any script even light one like wordpress or wiki as some customer reviewed you will be in dead zone with "CPU throttling ".
to be honest there server was stable and my web site down for few minutes past 6 months ..
But the hosting are really really slow if you care about your site rank and reputation with visitors try another host .
Finally don't even try CPU upgrade option even detective IP All this are useless if you have grown site use VPS from any decent Host with similar price .
and you will see a lot of differences

By today, even after being part of EIG they still offer only shared hosting. Why ? Simple because this is their strong part of the business. So, if you want a cheap and reliable provider, you are on good hands with these guys.

Hostmonster is great. Tech Support is excellent, don't have to wait more than 5 minutes, and the Techs don't mind fielding questions outside the realm of Hostmonster. I like the $50 AdWords and $25 Yahoo Credits. Affiliate program is excellent also, I have refered people and gotten $65 after 3 months hosted.

It is simply incredibly comparing to my previous host, Webhostingpad.

Webhostingpad advertise their plan as unlimited which turned out to be fake.

Hostmonster allows its user to use their server as web disk to store truly unlimited amount of data.

Nobody else can offer plan like this.
I think HostMonster is great. The Customer Service people are friendly, and I haven't been put on hold for a lenghty period of time. The Tech Support is great too, they are willing to answer questions that were not specific to my account, it's great to get some added information. Once I was doing some web work for a client, and I was totally stone walled by thier Web Host, after dealing with them, I realize HostMonster is #1 for me, no comparison.
HostMonster have every feature I have ever wanted. They are also very cheap and their service is wonderful. They have answered all my questions within only a few hours even on the weekend. I rate them 11 out of ten!!! And no I dont work for them.

"How I could best increase the internet speed for our clients that have slow internet connections at no cost to them? I decided on using mod_deflate. I had used mod_gzip in the past (Almost 10 years ago) so I was familiar with how it all worked and it was simple to set up. Mod_deflate basically takes certain types of files and compresses them at the server level and then sends those smaller files to you. Images, zip files, etc don't compress well (And so we don't compress these, but HTML files, javascript files, css files, etc compress very well. Often we see 80% compression levels on those type of files. These files are then decompressed on the client side automatically and used. This is all transparent to the user, except that download/page load times are much faster for the user (10-25% faster).

i have had no problems with them until this year - i've been with them for quite a while now - a few years... there has been a ridiculous amount of downtime recently and they don't compensate you for it. i mean, sites are down at least 5 times a week - even if for a brief time, that's unacceptable. i understand there is some downtime, but it's too frequent to be okay... get your act together hostmonster!

They wouldn't be bad if it wasnt' for the fact that at least once a week the server "goes away", and not even when the activity is at it's peak on the respective websites - on the contrary, that happens usually when the activity is very low.

Price is great for the features it offers, and the customer service is pretty god (not very good though)

its my 4th year with Hostmonster, and I am satisfied enough so far to return back to them for another 3 year renewal.
customer support is awesome, downtime so far I experienced is very decent, CPanel is good, with less or no ads that I experienced, script installer is as well very good with uptodate scripts and loads.
so far havent exeprienced any problems that could make me look for another hosts.
Looking forward to stay with hostmonster for as long as I get the same services.

For the past few years I have been a big fan of Hostmonster because they have a great price and their features are plenty and easy to use, but the fact that in the past month I have found all my sites unavailable at random times for no apparent reason is really starting to piss me off. One week I personally found it down three times in a single week!! What I wonder is how often is it down when I'm not looking? I don't want to leave, but I feel like I'm getting forced to...what good is having a website no one can access?

Every few weeks, I have trouble updating my web site because their server resets in the middle of an update. Their customer service keeps trying to shift the blame on comcast. On me. On my computer. On Bill Clinton. On everybody except their own system.

I signed onto HM over 3 years ago, originally because it was reasonably priced, and had nice features.

At first, they were great, but things went downhill about a year ago, as their shared servers started to get over-sold. HM jacked up the yearly renewal price, and dropped their "free" anti-spam filter (because it took up too much processing power to filter emails.) Then they introduced CPU throttling without having tested it properly-- my sites were sometimes throttled for no reason. (This has since been cleared up *magically* although my sites haven't changed.)

I suffered through all this, because they seemed to have "real" tech support reps, not outsourced-- and just before I renewed, after repeated complaints from me, they agreed to migrate my account to one of their newer server, since the old one was increasingly slow/crashing. (Yes, they kept customers on failing servers until they were forced to upgrade them.)

I am using hostmonter for 6 months.
Everything was OK.
Now I installed wiki and got cpu throttling 5-30 second per hour.
As I was going to install forum in addition, I applied to hostmonster team.
They proposed me high cpu server for $19.
After moving I had cpu throttling 500-1500 second per hour.
Even after removing wiki and DB I had cpu throttling 30 second per hour.
I asked support for help, but nobody even tried to fix something.
So $19 server is much more worse than $6 server.
Resume:
If your project is small, hostmonster is good for you.
Otherwise, you should search something else.
And advice, do not buy $19 server at hostmonster.
It is cheating, move instead to dedicated server.

It has been and is still a smooth ride right from the beginning. All the technical support is transparent and their "Help" categories are well written and right to the point. Actually, I cannot rate their customer relation since I never had to deal with them, everything works fine. I have never received a complaint or experienced any problems about speed or access to my site. The price is competetive and I feel I'm getting a lot more than what i've paid for. I am very happy with HostMonster.

HostMonster used to be a great host with fantastic options at a great price, this is no longer the case. Their claim of "unlimited domains" is partially true, they charge you $10 for each additional domain they host. They have reduced the number of databases allowed and their tech support and sales are sub par. Fine for someone who only hosts one domain or only needs a handful of databases, not good for a power developer.
HostMonster allows you to host an unlimited number of websites on one hosting account. What this means is you do not have to purchase a separate account if you have more than one domain. Simply add another domain to your account for $10 per year. We provide you with 100 MySql databases and 100 PostgreSQL databases which should be more than enough databases for almost any user.

I choose Hostmonster for the price. And today they want to charge me 8.95$/month for the renewal so think i'm going to chnage... but i feel betrayed.
HostMonster provides discounted pricing for your first term of service whether you choose a 1, 2 or 3 year hosting plan. When you renew your hosting account you can renew the pricing for 1 year at the current renewal price or receive a discounted price for a 2 or 3 year term.

Very good help and very fast servers.... the site was up in a day.
Very much tools in cpanel, friendly help in setting up eight domains...
Extra domains are cheap, awstats costs money, but not as much as I paid to JustHost.
Awstats is freeware and should be free...

When I first started with these folks my law practice was a tart-up, so I had little to no traffic. As my business started to grow the issues with HostMonster became more and more apparent in seing the lack of professionalism and overall knowledge of their customer service and tech support department. Bottomline, they were not able to efficiently handle a growing business with many email accounts and above-average traffic. Their down-time became more constant and their lack of proper customer service became untolerable.
They do have a good control panel but not if you are trying to run a successful business or expecting 100% up-time, just not gonna happen with HostMonster.com. I actually thought about legally pursuing this as a claim but not worth my time. Thank you.

Host Monster is an exceptionally good web hosting, with intelligent, well trained talent that answers the phone in a timely manner. Not only were they more knowledgeable than my competition, but they answered the phone in a timely manner. Their prices are well worth every penny, and then some. I had one outage on my MySQL of which they were already working on when I called so essentially highly responsive. My company had some pretty crazy questions related to open source scripting and they were able to answer it in a timely manner. My client needed additional ram, and they happily supplied me with it. I did not get even close to this good of service with 1&1 or Technolojik despite higher prices. With these guys you're not just getting good hosting you're getting a wealth of knowledge included. I would reccomend them to anybody who wants good shared hosting.

wow where to start. the prices are low for the first year and are a really good deal. But they do that only because they want to lure you in - the regular price is considerably higher and not worth it all considering the limitations they impose.

The initial price is rock bottom at cost to them because they want you to host with them, and then to get trapped in with them because you agreed to min 1-2 years of hosting (1 year at discount rate, 2nd year at full rate). They also bank on lazy or inexperienced webmasters hosting their site and then not knowing how to move their site and thus continuing to host with hostmonster at their regular rate (which is much higher).

They have really bad data limits meaning that even though they offer large amounts of bandwidth they won't let you use it. If you come near anything close to your bandwidth limit or anything higher than a 20+ gigs - they'll cancel your hosting without giving you warning or money back. This sounds like a form response and you mention Dreamhost and our company in the same message. We do not lock anyone into terms in which they pay for 1 year at a discounted rate and a second at a higher rate. All terms are paid for up front and there is a pro-rated refund if you choose to cancel early.

I am not a customer of them, because i was pissed off by their support when I ask them to clarify things that is not clear in ther advertisement. The guy quit my chat MANY times. The price is good, that's why i almost signed up to their package, but luckily I didn't because with the kind of support i get before I purchase, I can't imagine what will it be like once I've paid for it.

Worst, when I went to their support forum, few people there are so stuck up that they just scold me back for making such remark. (hostmonsterforum.com). I received an email from Hostmonster informing me that me host was due for renewal. I then get an email saying they had deducted $107 from my credit card! What happened to their $6.95 per month and why didn't they tell me the amount would be a lot higher. I emailed them asking why this was so much higher ($8.90) and the reply I got was this:

Last year, due to customer requests, we purchased additional equipment of higher quality. We also needed to increase our staff and hire on additional developers. The staff change was to prevent long hold times, and assure quick and accurate customer service. We spent a great deal of money and time on a better accounting system, so that we could prevent human error in account activities. Due to all of the changes, we had to increase our rates. We have kept our prices the same for about five years, but could no longer do so with the changes we've made for our customers.

This server promises unlimited space and bandwidth but when your site gets popular they will close your site without notification and will ask you to remove some your PhP scripts. I have few month left with them and then I am planing to move somewhere better server.

My website goes down now on a weekly basis including 3 times today. I always get the same reply from tech. that they are aware of this issue and it will take around 20 minutes. I kindly informed them that this has been going on for weeks! The first 2 times I was ignored and the last was suggested to look at another host organization with dedicated servers! My website is around 25 pages with very little traffic. Perhaps they should have said this before taking my money and place on their home page that they have server problems! Bad support! Seek elsewhere (as recommended by them if you want good server up-time)!

Their cheap plan is just that - very limited once you really start using it you realise that it does not have the features etc - so you have to buy these and they add cost - this has made them more expensive than several other better hosts I have used.

Uptime used to be good but lately things have gone off the boil and we are continually discovering issues. They also have a cavalier attitude to service. (IMHO)

I hosted with them for over a year now. Same script same database same avarage number of visitors . Suddenly in 2009 they just suspended my account saying I am using too much resources and I need to fix my script. They did not give me even a notice just removed my website which is a simple business directory.

I don not recommend them if you are planing to grow and have couple hundred visitors.

They will be happy to host your html only website without database but if you need for half the price I will give you a webhost for that.

AVOID HOSTMONSTER IN 2009 or try and balme only yourself.

STAY AWAY FROM HOSTMONSTER. I've never seen a worst people like them, as soon as you start getting any real traffic, your site will be shut down. My site was SHUT DOWN WITHOUT ANY PRIOR WARNING, and no explanation was given. My site was down for 48 hours, costing me money. In addition my hosting fees were not refunded.

Hostmonster deactivated my account, they did not even try to contact me by phone or email. The website worked pretty good for a year, but now everything I had got deleted by them.
I wish i could get the rest of my money back since I paid for 2 years.

I had two websites on hostmonster for over a year and last weekend they migrated my site without a proper back up or notification and completed DELETED both of my entire websites along with 900 other websites. If you have had problems with hostmonster in the last three years, please get in contact with me to join a class action law suit against them. They are claiming zero responsibility for the horrific act. Host monster just deactivated my account without warning and told me that i use the site for storage of files for the website.... itsn't that what a HOST does??? the abuse dept, (the only people to re-activate the account) number has been disconnected, customer support is no help!!

Website was down atleast 3-4 times a week for 30 mins or more at a time.
Our hosting plan is not for use as a backup service and we do not allow you to store files that are unrelated to your account on our servers. The abuse department is available via phone or using the online helpdesk. If your site is deactivated for a terms of service violation you will need to comply with the terms and your site will be reactivated.

It is the worst hosting which I ever have!
1. They have technical problem with dns -to add domain and assign it support L2 has spend about 2 days to get it work due to errors in DNS
2. Hosted services flapping (no down but respond times can be so long that you get timeout on specific service - I have logs in my monitoring system)
3. beware: hostmonster will not let you use your ftp site for backing up your files. They will block your site and refuse to refund you. Their customer service is arrogant and rude. They refuse time and again to answer questions.

We move two of our domains to this company based on the web hosting top.com review.. I purchased the annual plan and when it came up for renewal, my credit card expired during that year and I have over 2500 domains and did not received any notification that the card on file had expired. The account was suspended by midnight.. I went online, updated the credit and the billing department was closed! No notification, no one there to process my card and no attempts to contact me. Beware if you expect better service. All other hosting companies billing system is automatic. Beware!!

I had other problems with my email through out the year. I usually host with a company for 1 year before and migrate domains.. Beware!!!

My opinion, inspite I've just some weeks with them, is they are GREAT in all aspects. Now they offer 600 Gigabytes of Hosting Space / 6,000 Gigs of Transfer for as low cost as US$5.5/month, fast servers, no down time, complete and beautiful cpanel, professional support. When my site (www.kumpulankotbah.com) was under development, I was the only user who accessed it. But you won't believe that they said the traffic was too high and suspended my account! First off, there cpanel sucked! BUT! They just updated it yesterday, and now it looks ssssssssssssssssoooooooooooooooo much better.

About there customers support.

I've been reading some pretty bad reviews on this, and they were all dated back in 2006. Never had I have a support ticket waited 10 days or longer. (But lately, probably because of something, I had that happen to 2 of my support tickets, maybe something just happened to them). But, beyond that, if you ever need help, at the most, you can use there live chat for ASAP support, that's why support ticket take up to 24 hours for response. I'll skip the features. You can do a quick comparison with other hosting plans, services. The features are very competitive at the price they advertise. Price cost is extremely attractive (or so you think). Support is definitely excellent. At the very least, a published support line and on-line chat that I've never had to wait for over 5 times on about 10 support calls/requests I've made. Yet, I just found out one extremely nagging limitation. They set a limit of 50 emails/hr. You can have the limit raised to 500 emails/hr. 500 emails sounds like a lot, no? The truth is, it's a horrible limitation if you need to send customized emails to 1000 users... what do you do? I was very optimistic that this was going to be a great hosting provider for me, but I realized they did not have a feature I needed (virtualhosting for subdomains) and so cancelled the order within 30 days. No harm done I thought, but they have been very difficult in allowing me to transfer my domains to another provider. They have been playing games with me for 3 months now. I otherwise would recommend them, but really hate providers that pull slimy stuff like this. I would avoid given the spite-factor that seems to be part of their offering.

The features and the hosting is adequate, but customer support is awful. They take forever to answer support tickets, and even longer to fix problems. I have experienced numerous occassions when the servers have been down. I currently have a support ticket which they "escalated" almost 1 week ago to fix a problem their end, and I am still waiting for a reply, let alone a solution. The ticket is 10 days old at the time of this writing - unnacceptable in my opinion. If you need any kind of customer support, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
