Dotster have withdrawn from me money for service which I didn't order.

I renew domain names at the price about $8.59. But not $17.49.

This is a huge non-respect for the user.
I asked about a personal discount, which compensates me for the costs. For example, I could be given a discount to renew the domain. But nothing was given to me.

Been trying for a full week to transfer a domain AWAY from dotster. Every ~24 hours I get "denied". I call they say oh, yeah, you need to do "this" even though I've done "this". And then ~24 hours later "denied" again. If I ever get this moved I'll be moving the rest of my domains. Do not go here, they suck!
the worst ever. often my mail and or server is down, they switch things up and kick me off without notice or transition. i have to spend hours trying to get back up again and again. i am dropping them asap.

Their support is the WORST. Currently, they screwed up my FTP access so that I can only log in to ONE of my sites. I put in a support ticket. It's been 6 days and I've gotten NO response. This has been a constant problem, the whole time I've been a client. I am currently in the process of switching everything over to godaddy.
Dotster took over my registrar, and locked up all my domain names (over 130) so that I cannot update the Domain Name Servers. There is ONE person working at the company who has access to update them now and he's too busy to work on my name server updates. I've been struggling with them for a week now while almost all of my websites are down. Their customer support staff is not knowledgeable and they do not help at all. BEWARE OF DOTSTER!
It took Dotster more than 3 weeks to admit that they closed my account and erased my files without notifying me.
Facts are the following:
1. According to their representative, at April 30, 2012 Dotster bought my former hosting company.
2. At May 4, I discovered that access to my former homepage is blocked and I can't login.
3. I was not able to contact Dotster customer service. Their direct E-mail address was not accessible.
4. Dotster people failed to respond my four requests about withdrawing files.
5. Dotster made a special login webpage for former fortunecity customers that in my knowledge never worked.
I believe that Dotster.com is not reliable and Dotster people do not follow good business practices. In my opinion, they should inform customers of their policy changes in advance (1); They should provide customers an option to opt-out and reasonable time for closing their accounts (2); They should respond immediately the requests and provide a public E-mail for complains [read more...]
Customer support is irresponsible and helpless. Dotster may change policies at once and do not notify you in advance. They even do not keep records in order. It takes a while to solve a simple problem like resetting login information. How can I rate Dotster after all?
Registered through 000domains which is part of Dotster. The only thing that makes me nervous about Dotster are all the bad reviews. But I've had no major issues with their service. Customer support has been fine for the few questions I've had and the knowledge base answers most questions.
At some point I will probably need to move to a dedicated ip or server but until then Dotster seem like they provide good value. The control panel seems more intuitive than GoDaddy's for sure, although all the same options exist somewhere when you look. So unless something goes wrong in future I'm happy with them.
Their admin panel is very un=user-friendly, too.
Do not try to run a business with Dotster hosting. You'll have nothing but frustration.
We have put up with Dotster problems for over 3 years now. Just because of the trouble switching. I have had enough now.
If you need e-mail for critical correspondence then go elsewhere.
They do not respond to trouble and will not even accept e-mail complaints - you must fill out online trouble form.
Knowledge base has conflicting set-up instructions.
They may be inexpensive, but can you really afford them?
1) Support decided that we were using too much space and had to migrate us to a new server. They did not even bother coordinating with us and just sent us one email but again no coordination and we were down for days.
2) After the move, we had to change all of our passwords and logins.
3) Our stats were removed and we did not have stats for many months and when we kept trying to get those recovered, they were non responsive and basically in a round about way it was too bad so sad. We have clients that relied on those stats so we had to use other methods to product stats.
4) I just tried to cancel my account and I was told that we would not receive a refund for any unused months in our plan. We have over 6 months left.

they change their name but service is same bad.
many peoples have problems with them, so please never think for this company to get domain name or any other service.
they dont have any customer support, they never reply your support tickets.
When I decide to hosting w/ dotster. I found that Support service very poor and slow. It takes 5-7 to reply you email.
After 3 week, I cancel hosting account they will not refund you. Also charge more for Domain register (that should free w/ hosting package.) I lost $240 for this stupid company.
control panel is unbelievable - it must have been made by someone that really hates other people. it doesn't make any sense, confusing even for people with a lot of experience with different control panels.
worst bit is the actual services. they are so problematic! email issues, forwarding issues, sites down issues, pages not loading issues. you name it. once you have any issue - it would take you multiple tickets and phone to get any of their support trolls to do what ever it is [read more...]
I had hoped for the amount of money I was spending that it would at least be reliable. Unfortunately, I suffered regular outages and aggravated customers.
I called customer support and endured long delays. Even after I finally got a rep, he told me it was a problem with Dotster's vendor and there was nothing he could do.
I would not recommend Dotster hosting
Yesterday, all of my sites went *poof*. They're all gone... all the databases, the php and html, the logs, everything. And not a single person at Dotster can figure out why or how to help me. The best they've been able to do is suggest that I haven't paid. Utterly useless morons.
1) No 1 800 number
2) WeB chat does not work at all tried it more than 50 times
3) Got always the same automatically generated mails and no response to my question
4) Lost many clients
I've had my sites hosted with Dotster (and my domain names registered through them) for quite a while, and I've never had any problem. Right when I first bought my hosting package I had a problem getting started, but their customer service people were super helpful and got the problem solved within probably 10 minutes of my phone call. They've been great for me.

Regarding Dotsters legal battles:
It is funny that the previous review mentions Verisign - Their CEO was also just charged with security Fraud (see http://www.circleid.com/posts/verisign_director_charged_with_securities_fraud/)
I would like to see justice served with Dotster as well.
Secondly, don't assume that if you do not hear about any problems from them, that there aren't any most of the time. As already mentioned here they don't have a system status page, they do not inform customers about outages, system upgrades etc. and most of the time an upgrade means 24-72 hours downtime because they have no clue what they are doing. Most of the time YOU have to tell THEM about their software bugs, downtimes, that they are blacklisted again etc. - how about that?

1.) CONSTANTLY down & UNRELIABLE service
2.) on and off blacklisted server, hence your email bounces back
3.) no 800-number
4.) response times usually well above 24 hours, if any!
5.) SERIOUS LEGAL TROUBLES (google dotster, lawsuit, cybersquatting)
6.) NO system status page - Hmmm, I wonder why....
7.) absolutely arrogant and ignorant when dealing with problems
8.) they SPAM your mailbox full with useless offers and sales pitches
9.) super incompetent customer support
10.) seem to lock customer accounts if they try to transfer domains away

My only qualm is that they don't have a 1-800 number for customer support, but their support staff are down to earth and extremely helpful. I would recommend Dotster hosting to anyone.
