the worst ever
the worst ever. often my mail and or server is down, they switch things up and kick me off without notice or transition. i have to spend hours trying to get back up again and again. i am dropping them asap.

dotster sucks
Their support is the WORST. Currently, they screwed up my FTP access so that I can only log in to ONE of my sites. I put in a support ticket. It's been 6 days and I've gotten NO response. This has been a constant problem, the whole time I've been a client. I am currently in the process of switching everything over to godaddy.

Dotster is THE WORST EVER in 12 years of website work
Dotster took over my registrar, and locked up all my domain names (over 130) so that I cannot update the Domain Name Servers. There is ONE person working at the company who has access to update them now and he's too busy to work on my name server updates. I've been struggling with them for a week now while almost all of my websites are down. Their customer support staff is not knowledgeable and they do not help at all. BEWARE OF DOTSTER!

Sedo Buys Domain Parking Service - Online domain marketplace Sedo (www.sedo.com) announced on Tuesday it has acquired domain parking service RevenueDirect (www.revenuedirect.com) from domain registrar Dotster (www.dotster.com), which will increase Sedo's North American market share.
Dotster recently expanded its user-community platform, providing companies with online communities and next-generation social networking at four new price points.
In addition to the acquistiion, Sedo also announced it has formed a strategic long-term partnership with Dotster.
As a result of the partnership, Sedo will benefit from the company's large inventory and strong registrar presence.
Meanwhile, RevenueDirect customers will be able to use Sedo's monetization engines to access the world's largest secondary market for buying and selling domain names.

It took Dotster more than 3 weeks to admit that they closed my account and erased my files without notifying me.
Facts are the following:
1. According to their representative, at April 30, 2012 Dotster bought my former hosting company.
2. At May 4, I discovered that access to my former homepage is blocked and I can't login.
3. I was not able to contact Dotster customer service. Their direct E-mail address was not accessible.
4. Dotster people failed to respond my four requests about withdrawing files.
5. Dotster made a special login webpage for former fortunecity customers that in my knowledge never worked.
I believe that Dotster.com is not reliable and Dotster people do not follow good business practices. In my opinion, they should inform customers of their policy changes in advance (1); They should provide customers an option to opt-out and reasonable time for closing their accounts (2); They should respond immediately the requests and provide a public E-mail for complains [read more...]

Customer support is irresponsible and helpless. Dotster may change policies at once and do not notify you in advance. They even do not keep records in order. It takes a while to solve a simple problem like resetting login information. How can I rate Dotster after all?

Registered through 000domains which is part of Dotster. The only thing that makes me nervous about Dotster are all the bad reviews. But I've had no major issues with their service. Customer support has been fine for the few questions I've had and the knowledge base answers most questions.
At some point I will probably need to move to a dedicated ip or server but until then Dotster seem like they provide good value. The control panel seems more intuitive than GoDaddy's for sure, although all the same options exist somewhere when you look. So unless something goes wrong in future I'm happy with them.

They are the worst. I can't wait to switch my 2 remaining hosted sites off their stupid service. I've had so many problems, from the sites not working, to their support page being down, to LAME customer service that takes 3 days to get back to you...

Their admin panel is very un=user-friendly, too.

Do not try to run a business with Dotster hosting. You'll have nothing but frustration.

We use just as e-mail hosting service with our domain name but do not need any web site hosting.
We have put up with Dotster problems for over 3 years now. Just because of the trouble switching. I have had enough now.

If you need e-mail for critical correspondence then go elsewhere.

They do not respond to trouble and will not even accept e-mail complaints - you must fill out online trouble form.

Knowledge base has conflicting set-up instructions.

They may be inexpensive, but can you really afford them?

Trying to overcharge for renewals. Will not give you a promo code if you are a long time customer. Horrible mean spirited people who don't care about their customers. Small operation. Sounds like only 4 or 5 people work there. Beware go someplace else, anywhere but there!

My company purchased 2 years in advance hosting with Dotster. We were happy with the service until a number of issues occurred.

1) Support decided that we were using too much space and had to migrate us to a new server. They did not even bother coordinating with us and just sent us one email but again no coordination and we were down for days.

2) After the move, we had to change all of our passwords and logins.

3) Our stats were removed and we did not have stats for many months and when we kept trying to get those recovered, they were non responsive and basically in a round about way it was too bad so sad. We have clients that relied on those stats so we had to use other methods to product stats.

4) I just tried to cancel my account and I was told that we would not receive a refund for any unused months in our plan. We have over 6 months left.

I have dealt with many hosting companies in the past and I would rate Dotster as the worst. Buyer beware. I have [read more...]

I register my domain thru Dotster for few years but never hosting w/ them

When I decide to hosting w/ dotster. I found that Support service very poor and slow. It takes 5-7 to reply you email.

After 3 week, I cancel hosting account they will not refund you. Also charge more for Domain register (that should free w/ hosting package.) I lost $240 for this stupid company.

After waiting on hold for 20 minutes (the usual amount of time for this company) I was told the transfer of my domain away from them would be immediately approved and I would be done with them by the end of business. HA, not even close. I called again the next day on hold again for over 15 minutes, and was told that I would either have to fax in a photo id or wait for the transfer to be automatically approved. The faxing would take 24 hours to process, or I could wait and in 12 hours the transfer SHOULD be completed. Never mind the fact their guy yesterday said it would be done immediately. Needless to say, I certainly wont be buying any services from them and any future domains that come up in auction, I might think twice before bidding if its going to default back to them. AVOID AT ALL COST, there are so much better options out there!!

terrible in every way. support must be one of the stages of Dante's Hell. If it wasn't annoying and upsetting, it would be a fine joke. nothing is supportive is their support. first of all you'd think that a company of their magnitude would have a 24/7 email/phone/chat support. nope. they just have the email ticket system thing, and the phone all you get is a poor nice lady that all she does is fill up the email ticket instead of you (of course that to get to her you'll wait around 15-20 in line).

control panel is unbelievable - it must have been made by someone that really hates other people. it doesn't make any sense, confusing even for people with a lot of experience with different control panels.

I had a frustrating experience with Dotster. I bought an Ultra hosting plan with 200GB storage, 2TB transfer, and unlimited domains and email.

I had hoped for the amount of money I was spending that it would at least be reliable. Unfortunately, I suffered regular outages and aggravated customers.

I called customer support and endured long delays. Even after I finally got a rep, he told me it was a problem with Dotster's vendor and there was nothing he could do.

I suggest to anyone interested in dotster hosting services to think again. From my experience they no more than ok until things are not ok. They took down my site due without any warning (email, phone) and when I discovered that - it was only the gateway to the hell that is their customer support. It's only when you have issues that you discover how good the hosting provider is. In doster case they are of the worst kind. They charge for professional hosting - with promises of attentive support. It took me 24 hours, with multiple phone calls and support tickets to just find the reason they took my site down. The phone support is a sad joke - since their only mission is to block you. All they do is transfer your message to the holy tech team, that by no means can be reached directly. This is the absolute worst Registar in the history of man. My initial thought was “Great! A US company that can act as a Registar for UK domains. How perfect can it get?” Boy, was I wrong. They use a third party to resister international domains. www.register.it is an Italian company that I had to contact because Dotster was unable to make changes to my account. After contacting them, they told me Dotster could access the domain through their interface. Dotster said they couldn’t. This company cannot make a simple account change without a 4 hour hold time. The Dotster / Register.it fight lasted awhile with me trapped in the middle. I worked with them patiently for 4 weeks trying to get our names servers changed. Then another 2 weeks to get the TAG changed when they failed. Neither change was ever made. I finally had to get www.nominet.org.uk to make the change at the cost of 11 pounds. Avoid this company like the plague.

Absolutely horrid. While they offer great bang for the buck, the service is very erratic and unreliable. You can expect do be double- and triple- billed for services. They will routinely cancel your count claiming that you haven't paid for something that you have paid for. It can take weeks to resolve the issue which always turns out to be their fault... you just need to accept the fact that your sites will be down for weeks at a time.

Yesterday, all of my sites went *poof*. They're all gone... all the databases, the php and html, the logs, everything. And not a single person at Dotster can figure out why or how to help me. The best they've been able to do is suggest that I haven't paid. Utterly useless morons.

I just transferred all my domain names from dotster so they are really lousy.
1) No 1 800 number
2) WeB chat does not work at all tried it more than 50 times
3) Got always the same automatically generated mails and no response to my question
4) Lost many clients

Honestly, if you spend 15 minutes on Google looking for dirt on ANY hosting company you're going to be able to put together a good size list of links to negative feedback.

I've had my sites hosted with Dotster (and my domain names registered through them) for quite a while, and I've never had any problem. Right when I first bought my hosting package I had a problem getting started, but their customer service people were super helpful and got the problem solved within probably 10 minutes of my phone call. They've been great for me.

I had a positive impression of MYDOMAIN.com until the weekly showdowns, when nothing worked anymore and people told me that my website
is down (per phone, because they email they sent disappeared as well).
And it is getting progressively worse with the service interruptions.

fyi. The recent email no-go **NOT only forwarding, but also delivering to** lasted 3 weeks.

Unreliable, unfriendly customer support, and email forwarding is currently down again 8 DAYS(and counting!) because - this time - Comcast blocked their servers for good. See also http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,16788869 on this subject. Apparently Dotster/Mydomain.com is renown for relaying SPAM all over the Internet.

Definitely TWO THUMBS DOWN for this provider!

I totally agree with the previous post(s).

Regarding Dotsters legal battles:

It is funny that the previous review mentions Verisign - Their CEO was also just charged with security Fraud (see http://www.circleid.com/posts/verisign_director_charged_with_securities_fraud/)
I would like to see justice served with Dotster as well.

Secondly, don't assume that if you do not hear about any problems from them, that there aren't any most of the time. As already mentioned here they don't have a system status page, they do not inform customers about outages, system upgrades etc. and most of the time an upgrade means 24-72 hours downtime because they have no clue what they are doing. Most of the time YOU have to tell THEM about their software bugs, downtimes, that they are blacklisted again etc. - how about that?

Seriously the worst registrar and ISP ever - even worse than Network Solutions (Verisign) in the 90s.

10 good reasons to RUN ... FAST!

1.) CONSTANTLY down & UNRELIABLE service
2.) on and off blacklisted server, hence your email bounces back
3.) no 800-number
4.) response times usually well above 24 hours, if any!
5.) SERIOUS LEGAL TROUBLES (google dotster, lawsuit, cybersquatting)
6.) NO system status page - Hmmm, I wonder why....
7.) absolutely arrogant and ignorant when dealing with problems
8.) they SPAM your mailbox full with useless offers and sales pitches
9.) super incompetent customer support
10.) seem to lock customer accounts if they try to transfer domains away

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS OR YOU'LL REGRET IT.

Premium web hosting. Price is nice for unlimited domain hosting, but Control panel is excruciatingly slow, configuration settings have been inexplicably lost, DNS servers are dodgy at best, and email hasn't worked for a month. Also sometimes customer support doesn't even respond. Horrid overall.

In my opinion, Dotster is the most under rated host on the net. Their prices are fabulous, their packages are robust, and my site has never run faster than it does with them.

My only qualm is that they don't have a 1-800 number for customer support, but their support staff are down to earth and extremely helpful. I would recommend Dotster hosting to anyone.
