Used they service for couple of years ,was ok. At that time they had a customer service phone number so if you have any technical issues just call them and they help you straight away. Now customer service phone support is gone only FAQ available and if you question is not there or slightly different then you can forget about any help , tried to contact them on many occasions - no luck at all. Just canceled contract and moved domain. Never will recommend to my enemy .

I was customer of Strato and I'm disappointed because Strato failed in protecting my personal information completely. Read on...
I know about WHOIS and I don't mind my personal information being displayed based on a domain name. Strato also informs you about this in its Privacy Policy. But what I didn't know, and Strato should know, was that there are websites/companies providing an illegal service which is called "reverse WHOIS lookup", website/companies such as: domaintools.com, whoisology.com, whoisxmlapi.com or who.is.
That means that now anyone can visit such a website, fill MY NAME (!) in as search term and see where I live, what my phone number is, what my e-mail address is, what domain names I own etc. I think the most of 1,5 million people who are customer of Strato don't realise this.
Strato, the personal information of your customers is being (ab)used/sold without their permission, do something! I didn't trusted you my personal information to be abused like this. [read more...]

Strato Prepares For .fr Land Rush - German Web hosting provider Strato AG (strato.de) announced on Wednesday it is preparing for a land rush for Frances' .fr top level domain when rules change there next week. The Web host predict that by the end of this year the number of registered sites will double from the current 1.4 million.
Strato CEO Damian Schmidt says the French TLD has been subject to strict controls until now, with companies having to go through a lot of red tape to prove eligibility. This will change starting June 20 and Schmidt anticipates a surge in new registrations, similar to what happened in Spain earlier this year when restrictions were removed from the .es TLD.Currently, Strato is the second most popular Web hosting company in Europe, behind its fellow German rivals, 1&1 Internet AG. Strato has 1 million customers and 2 million domains registered, compared to 1&1's 3.5 million and 5 million. Of Stratos registered domains, 80 percent are .de, making up for about 16 percent of the total ... [search all strato.de news]

If Carlsberg made web hosts, they had nothing to do with Starto
Oh how bad can a web host be.
Back end control panel, accounts dept, customer support, software and software support, cost, space allocation, systems management are all unbelievably bad. I was with them for over ten years before my patience ran out and I can confirm they have invested nothing in updating their systems, which are now at least five years behind everyone else.
If you are thinking of using them, cut out the middle man, take you money and flush it down the toilet.

do not use this host
If you have problems, it is impossible to reach their abuse team. They don't answer your emails, the only way to get an answer from them is to publish a message on their Facebook page, but even though they don't help. AVOID this host!

Strato are rude, arrogant and not worth the money
Over the years I have used strato i have had numerous causes to contact their helpline. Sometimes very helpful, other times the most rude and unhelpful people ever.
They assure you despite being in Germany that all operators speak english - on two occasions now I have had to try my basic German as teh operators speak none.
They say they send invoices by email buty I've yet to see one and god forbid if you don't remember when to pay the invoice without reminders thy immediately send intrum justicia round to collect. Intrums letters have on two occasions stated that under German Law they can add £50 on for collection costs. I've responded with under English law you must first send an invoice which results in the case being thrown out.
I've paiud the latest invoice to intrum justitia in ireland who are happy it has been paid over a week ago but I'm still waiting for Strato to lift the restrictions from my account. THE most unhelpful customer service I've ever had.

We tried to purchase an unused domain off a strato customer. When the customer asked Strato to transfer the ownership of the domain to us instead they advised him to just cancel the domain and tell us we must be the first to try and re-register it.

I had several customers who had their websites hosted at Strato. In the meantime we moved all of them to other hosters because too many problems occured trying to get TYPOlight CMS to work. Even in the more expensive packages Strato doesn't offer the necessary PHP extensions and functions to get a modern CMS to run properly - and they weren't willing to promise any upgrades.
They do offer comprehensive help with their FAQ section and knowledge base and support is fairly quick and friendly but they are not willing to make any concessions in order to keep track with the common web development.
I can't say that this is an all-time condition but it was my experience over a number of years.

I phoned up Strato to cancel the web-hosting contract only to find out that I have to pay them for another whole year. If you sign up with these con-artists they will give you a contract where you cannot cancel within 30 days of the "renewal" date. I didn't even know it was automatic renewal, and I certainly didn't know about the 30 day "agreement" for cancellation. It was obviously part of the small-print.
I now have web-hosting that I wanted to cancel today, that I have to pay for another whole year.
I was ushered into this contract with Strato by Lycos when Lycos wound up their web hosting business. It seemed OK at first. As time went by they got worse. They removed most of the free images without notification, causing the shock of my website looking much less attractive the next time I visited it. Instead they offered their customers a special offer with Fotolia. To get the special offer, which is only 5 free images, you have to give Fotolia your mobile phone number so they [read more...]
