With over 6 years with them I have the most experience -- their interface has never been upgraded and while they offer cheap pricing for hosting, it should be avoided. As many others report, your sites will go offline frequently. Calling is no use because tech support reports that "they" can get to your site. It's like I'm hosting on some child's home computer in England and they've chosen the cheapest DSL for home hosting.

As for domains, another thing to avoid. They've recently increased pricing and their explanation was that "everyone else increased" so they should too. There's nothing to differentiate them from all of the other vendors who happen to have professional control panels...control panels that let you BATCH operations. Good can't even do that with Domainmonster! If you have 1,000 domains, like I had, imagine manually moving all of those domains. I've used this company for more than 5 years. They have been fine up until recently. I like the way I can quickly get sites up on line with Wordpress with them. But recently I have noticed that my sites have been dropping off line and then going back on line. I rang the support on a Friday because I had just set up a load of advertising campaigns to run for the weekend and was a way from my computer and noticed the sites I was running the ads to were down. They told me they couldn't do anything until the technical support staff came in on the Monday! The site came back on line on the Sunday. A month later I noticed same problem drop in people going to the sites to zero. Checked the sites (all 28) - down. I phoned the support the next day 12 hours later. They said they'd pass it on to their Technical team and they would get back to me. 24 hours later no response even though I have rung them again to find out what was going on. No response on Twitter. Historically their platforms have been outdated and they take ages to update. Support is strictly first line and do a good job of lip service but getting any results is difficult.
My last experience was when my sites were taken offline with no communication, apparently do to malware. Turns out they last scanned for malware three weeks ago and cannot restore a clean backup. Lucky I have a backup, but four days, hours of international phone calls, cancelled holiday and frustrated users can't get them to enable my domain so i can restore my backup / rebuild despite them having deleted all the files in the domain root directory. No one in support or in the hosting team is willing to take responsibility to resolve an issue nor are they proactive in their approach .... "disappointed" is an understatment.

Here's how their process works:

1. register for an account, select a domain starting at 7.99 and pay.

2. after a few days (usually 48 hours) you'll receive an email stating that they randomly check accounts for fraud and that yours is peculiar - they need everything from passport to drivers license scanned and faxed in

3. you are blocked from

4. they tell you that you agreed to ICANN's agreement and they won't refund you the money - don't believe them, if you paid using a CC - call them

Domainmonster is NOT cheaper than GoDaddy etc. they are ALL the same - the big differences among them are a) whether they want to commit fraud b) the services the provide - like one click setup etc. Domainmonster does not excel in b) but does in a)

As stated in other posts...
They will lock your account down and demand verification for no reason at all. To unlock your account and retrieve the use of your domains you have to provide them ID within 48 hours.

If there was actually a reason for them wanting to know this (something fraudulent had actually happened), I wouldn't mind as much that they have basically stolen my domains. As it stands though, nothing fraudulent has happened and I don't own the documentation they require to unlock it. e.g. I don't plan to learn to drive to get hold of a driving license, nor do I plan to go back to University to get a student card. This leaves renewing my passport at a cost of 72.50, which won't arrive in 48 hours anyhow of course.

They make the claim here and in email that 'they take fraud seriously'. I wholeheartedly concur, they're very good at it.

Fraud, unacceptable terms
Domainmonster will let you sign up and pay for domains then they hit you with a sudden account lockout (preventing transfer out) and 48h ultimatum, whereby you have to scan and send your passport and driver's licence.

If you refuse, they keep the domain(s) and your money. No refund, no recourse.

Avoid them, go elsewhere.

We are vigilant with our anti fraud and anti spam checks to protect ourselves, our customers and the wider Internet community.

That's why from time to time, accounts are locked and further verification is requested.

We cannot offer refunds on new registrations. Domain names are instantly registered and instantly billed. We cannot get a refund on these domain names which is why we never offer refunds on registrations.

Hassle free DNS hosting.
I've been with domain monster for a good few years now and have nothing but praise for them. Registering domains is simple, easy and cheap. DNS management is straight forward, with plenty of options and tools for all areas needed. I've transfered all my domain names to them, bar one which will be getting transfered soon. The transfers have all been hassle free and more importantly fast.

I would thoroughly recommend domain monster.

Utter scam
I registered with domainmonster 5 days ago and have no access to my account and will not respond to my emails, when i go to there site all i get is "Access to the web page was denied

You seem to be having a problem accessing our website.

We will always respond to emails from customers. Have you checked your spam boxes and other folders to ensure that mail has not been incorrectly labelled?

They had free .asia giveaway a few months back, and yesterday they told me my account is considered as fraud.
They blocked my account without prior notification.
They kept asking all sorts of forms and never returned my account back.
Worst customer service ever!!!

We have to be vigilant against fraudulent transactions. We're trying to protect both out customers and ourselves against unauthorised payments and identity theft.

We cannot discuss individual cases on a public forum.

However, we would only ever restrict access to an account if there was a risk of fraudulent activity. 99% of our customers appreciate this attention to detail and are happy to have some peace of mind that they are protected.

Domainmonster has failed in many things to me.
I tried to register 4 domains to start off.
I have completed their online forms, registered myself as a member and payed 43 EUR for the domains.

Three days later I have realised that they have not managed to register my requested (and payed) domains. The whois records show „due to delete” or „available” state.

I have sent them email asking why.
No reply.
I have called them, talked to some Mark who said they have requested some documents through email to prove myself that I am the one who I am telling to be the one. (?) This email HAVE NOT arrived to me. Yes, my email works. He simply lied. He promised to call me back in twenty minutes.
I have called them again three times in the following days, but I was put on hold for ages, left my number and nobody called me back.

This company seems like a rip-off monster to me.

Apologies if you've had a bad experience of our service. prides itself on excellent customer service. The .EU registry can sometimes be sluggish in activating new registrations.

They also have the power to delete domains that they feel are unacceptable.

I can assure you that we would have emailed you a response to every email that you sent us. Perhaps you have missed these emails in your Spam filter or other email folder?

I have never written a review before but felt so strongly with regards to this company, thought I must!

In short I had a domain name with these people for 2 years, when I went to renew they informed me I hadn't done this in time and they had to back order the name again, grand total £6.99, I agreed to this as it was around what I paid last time, 3 months later they went into my bank account and took out nearly £43.00 off my debit card.

When I rang to ask why, they said that I had agreed to this sum of money being taken and was advised at the time and it was the cost for the back order, after a very long arguement with a Mark Smith (the manager)he decided to put the phone down on me

At no point was I informed that this is what it would cost and when the money was going to be taken.

I have now spoken to trading standards and they advised to request a copy of the recorded call, rang back Domainmonster and asked to speak with Mark Smith again, I was left on hold for ages, [read more...]

I'm sorry that you felt you did not get the service you needed. However the back order page clearly states the amount that you will be charged if we do indeed snap the name for you.

There are no guarantees but I can assure you our system is one fo the most equitable in the industry.

Our customer service is second to none! Checking our Twitter feed, Facebook page or Testimonials on our site will show you how impressed our customers are with our support.

Unfortunately renewing a domain that is expired costs money! Therefore you were charged more than a normal renewal as we had to back order the name.
