My business web site has been hosted by Homestead.com for several years.
The product and service keep getting worse, while the price goes up.
Homestead.com truly seems not to care about customers.

BEWARE!
Signed up October 20, 2014-Ofcourse paid at that time. Closed account November 12th 2014. Reason for closing account - never can get through to anyone. Even when I do I am told I need to contact .....it's another department and have to wait all over again. BIGGEST ISSUE. My account continues to keep on getting deducted the monthly fee. They have now taken out two payments of approximately $78.00 each time. I would have tried to discuss this issue with them but hmmmm!!!! THAT'S RIGHT NEVER CAN REACH THEM! twice I timed it as to how long I was on hold the least amount of time was 21 minutes.

Homestead Storefront STINKS!!!!
Homestead has great salesmen and then nothing else. They recently switched to "big commerce" and have been absolutely no help on the website that they designed. Photos are missing, cart page doesn't work right, font color has been changed to just about the same color as the background page, and then customer service (after waiting over an hour) says its my responsibility!! Even though they built this website that cost me over $2,000.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEWARE BEWARE BEWARE

NOTHING BUT A PAIN
I started using intuit in 2009. Everything was fine at first. I went with site builder instead of simple store because simple store uses templates and is very limited for pics and text. Every year there are more problems. Constantly crashes when editing or publishing. I cant make changes or publish my main page. I don't know why and neither does customer support. Got a new computer with Windows 8, guess what, Intuit/Homestead doesn't support it!!! Recently my website email doesn't support Explorer. You have to use Google Chrome or Firefox!! What's up with that? Their Tech's must really SUCK because nothing is being fixed. Can't use windows 8??? Really??? Like they didn't know it was coming out??? I also think that customers using Win 8 can't view my site. My traffic is steadily going down. This is unacceptable!! This is my business and intuit is KILLING it. I want to change companies. I have several websites that I have hosted with homestead and I am on the gold plan. Have always received great customer service, never over charged and the services seem to be fair.
I have been a homestead customer now for over 5 years. One thing that is very nice... the homestead interface is very simple to use. I have set-up two customers with sites, both of these site are managed daily for business use. Both companies are large with many products, and a large sales force that depends on the
homestead website to show and provide customers with information on the products. I am happy with homestead!

Great softward & hosting, but full of bugs, snags, and problems
I have both a SiteBuilder desktop account and a SiteBuilder-Plus account. Over the past 10-12 years I have had over 200 websites with Homestead/Intuit. Their hosting is not the issue. Homestead has had numerous problems with their proprietary SiteBuilder and SiteBuilder-Plus software and apparently they are not focused on fixing those issues. The software is user friendly, but full of snags and bugs.

Many of their tech support staff are outsourced and not well trained. I have had several of my websites down at the same time, and then wait days or weeks to have tech support address the issues. Due to their incompetence, I have lost several clients and am facing lawsuits by at least two clients because of their loss of revenue and/or clients.

And Homestead's email problems are legendary!

just to let others know that I was trying to host a new site with homestead - they took all my details and credit card information - then when I tried to log in again ..all I get is server error and they have not sent any emails of acknowledgement..needless to say I will block any attempts of transactions or money debited.

I was tricked into signing up in order to get a free iphone4s if I signed up. And if and when I receive my phone should start billing me after a trial of 2 free months. THEY STARTED BILLING ME IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT ANY iphone4s received!
I NEVER USED their services never setup a website AND THEY BILLED FOR OVER A YEAR even A GREATER AMOUNT than offered in their advertisement!! i did not know they were billing me til recently! Never received any billing info never a receipt.
When I asked for a refund they didnt even care to answer !!

Pleased with Homestead - frustrated with upgrades from Intuit
I have had several domains - over 5 - with Homestead, for over 3 years. I absolutely loved the downloaded Homestead SiteBuilder program. Once Intuit took over, a lot of things changed. The new changes are not user-friendly, IMHO.
Because I wanted to have the flexibility to take PayPal and major credit cards on my one Homestead website, I called them recently, to explore my options. At first, I was told I needed SimpleStore. Then, I found out that I could either take PayPal OR major credit cards with SimpleStore, but not both. I would not have upgraded. Next, I was put into the Intuit Storefront. What a nightmare! Storefront is horrible! Opted out.

Not Good If You're a Business
If you're just making a website for fun to show friends and family, Homestead is great. But if you're a business, this is not your best option. Setmysite.com, 123triad.com, or Web.com are better options for showcasing products and services.

Homestead seems like it is today's version of GeoCities. It's hard to have your business taken seriously because the designs are so limited.

Homestead - not all it's cut out to be
I was a platinum customer with Homestead paying $50 a month. I had pushed the design tools to their limits. There were things I wanted to add to my website that were apparently not possible with the site builder. I called customer service for assistance because the changes I wanted to make seemed pretty basic. After being on hold for 36 minutes, I talked to this guy with a thick Pakistani accent who essentially told me I was out of luck.

If you need something simple, Homestead is fine. But if you want something unique, you're much better off with Web.com or Set My Site. Homestead just didn't cut it. Limited functions, crappy customer services, and not worth the price. Use something else.

Seems like an awesome idea free trial only $2NZD to set up .... until you cancel your free trial in the first month then you get charged $37.46NZD and now i have been charged again.... I want my money back homestead misleading people all over the world i'm quite happy to advertise that information everywhere for free....

completely dissatisfied with support and software
I signed up with to update my business website and the sales person said it was easy online software. It is NOT. I have been working on my site for over a month now, the software will freeze, it won't do simple "new page" with the design I selected. Even Cory the last tech I spoke with couldn't figure out how to make the software work. BTW, I am on a Mac with DSL line and you would think this would be easy. I spent 5 hours one night, and then the software froze and I lost all the work even though I saved it each time I worked on a page. I want to cancel this and find someone who can really help.

Report Homestead scam to McAfee
You can report being scammed by Homestead to McAfee so that the site will have a red cross placed against it to indicate the company/site cannot be trusted. When the Homestead listing appears, click on the green McAfee Site Advisor tick, then "view site report". From there you have the option of reporting a "bad shopping experience."

I'd really expect an attorney, particularly one with a company as large as ATT, to be articulate. If government authorities laugh at consumer complaints as this "ATT attorney" states, then that's all the more reason we need for the press to get involved.

I have just gone into homestead.com to set up a website. i filled out all of the appropriate infomation including MY BANK CARD details and then tried to contact their support number which is the only number on their website written in 3places, so i rang the phone contact number and it replied back to me that the number has been disconnected. I had a website for a few months with this company. I canceled it b/c I decided now wasn't the time for starting my small business. To cancel I just FOLLOWED THEIR INSTRUCTIONS: Call with your site/account PIN# and that was that. You can't cancel by email- they plainly staet this. I think most of the frustrations being expressed on this forum is due to customers not following directions. It's not rocket science or Greek- you just have to read. I had 30 days at no charge, 3 months of payments (at the amount I agreed to pay). If you add on 3rd party vender options you must contact and cancel those services too... if you're not prepared to read and understand your terms of agreement before you signup for something then OF COURSE you're not going to be happy- but the blame will be in your court playa'. WORD.

The individuals on this board who complain about fraudulent charges on their cards as a result of Intuit Homestead are incredibly careless with their finances. If these individuals had read the terms of agreement before signing up they would understand these charges. When you input your credit card information and fail to do your research you must accept the full responsibility of your actions. The terms of agreement for this particular service clearly state, you get the first month free and then you will sustain charges after those first 30 days. You also must call to cancel your account. I am an attorney and the individuals who take time out to claim fraudulent charges and report Intuit/Homestead as frauds are pretty much laughed at in the legal community. Those who are having their credit cards fraudently debited by Homestead/Intuit need to complain to the Federal Trade Commission if in the U.S. or econsumer.gov for cross-border complaints. If enough complaints are made then Homestead/Intuit will be investigated and prosecuted.

I have the same experience of signing up for a supposedly free trial (which I never proceeded with much less got anywhere near the stage of building a website) only to have Homestead start debiting my credit card for a service I never received. They have no "contact" option on their website and refuse to allow you to cancel your account through their website. They also refuse to acknowledge or accept cancellations advised by email.

I have advised my bank that Homestead are fraudulently debiting credit cards without the permission of their owners and for services never received. I have also lodged a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission asking that Homestead is investigated. I urge others to do the same.

Having setting up a website myself recently I know that the bank has strict rules about best practice before they will grant a payment gateway. I think Homestead's bank also needs to be held to account for facilitating these practices. At the very least, their bank [read more...]

Terrible company. I have rung them several times from NewZealand and asked them to stop my account. They assured me they have stopped it and I have the proof in an email but they kept taking out money from my account. The bank here says I now have to cancell my accounts and start new ones just because this company are fraugilant...I have never before had this much problems. You can not get online help either...Never sign up with them !!!!

This is a scam. You sign up for the 30 day free trial and then they don't give you any way to cancel.
I signed up to see what the service was like because I am helping a friend with their web site. I never created a web page. I responded to their initial email saying I did not want to use their service. I never received an email from them saying "OK, your free trial is over." And worse, you cannot cancel via the web. You HAVE to call them to cancel. That is ridiculous. Now I find I am being billed on my credit card for a site I am not using and never built. I have used Intuit's tax program and Quicken but now I think I need to find a different company as this type of marketing is just sleaze of the first order.

I started with Homestead three years ago knowing nothing. It has been a process. I have been able to do what I set out to do and build a storefront that gets people to visit my brick and mortar location. The few times I have called I feel I got good and full service even if I had to wait on the phone occaisionally. Definitely not a scam but I will now be looking into significant improvements and may or may not stick with Homestead. For me this was a very good decision to sign up.

I started with the free trial. Then I forgot to cancel. I was charged $5 per month I never even set up with Homestead. I got to busy. I called after 4 months of paying $5.00 I was assured I was canceled. Well for the next 6 months I was still charged. I did not look over statements as they are usually right on. One day checking something I noticed they were still taking out money. I tried to call to no avail. I tried to log in to my account and could not do that. I could not locate anyone to cancel
I canceled the debit card or they would still be taking the 5.00 per month I know it is only $5.00 but if I had it all back it would be $90.00
They are scams. I can get into them so be careful. Watch out for auction swipe that is really bad. I started their FREE TRIAL, had to give a credit card to get it. Didn't like their service, cancelled within days through their website and via email. Got no reply.

Didn't hear from them until months later when I see they charged my card. I tried to call them about it.

Customer "service" is very hard to get ahold of. Called several times, waited. The service rep told me he couldn't help me, I had to email their billing department.

Emailed their billing department and still haven't heard back.

HOMESTEAD and INTUIT ARE SCAMMERS. Here's why: they won't let you cancel, even though they claim it's a FREE TRIAL. That's fraud plain and simple.

And you shouldn't have to call to cancel!

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND AVOID THESE COMPANIES!!

I have been trying to get hold of them for 7 months to not avail. I was away and my credit card expired. When I tried to log in to add my new card, it would not let me in.

Not only did I loose my website and all the contents,text and effort put onto it, I now have to create a brand new website for my business.

You cannot get hold of them on the phone and they will NOT reply to any emails. I have sent emails every two days for the past 3 months and nothing!

Please stay clear and if you go with them, make sure you back up anything you put onto your website.

Do not expect any customer support.

Homestead slack on customer service? Hang up and try again, everyone I have talked to has been awesome and helped me way beyond the 20 minute mark. This site is not a scam, it is great and the price for what you get is amazing. It is easy to use, easy to cancel and easy to up-date.

Hello, I was new to building a storefront and went with Intuit Homestead and regret it. There is ABSOLUTELY no customer support. You are totally on your own and SAID THAT TO ME. I called in because I had a lot questions, was on the phone with one gal for about 20 minutes and she just told me that she couldn't stay on the phone with me all day or hold my hand. That's is do it yourself program and I would have to figure it out on my own. I swear to you, those were her exact words. Never having done this before, can you guess how that made me fee.??? I told her, oh, thank you then and hung up. I felt ashamed because I'm just so stupid. Thank you Intuit! I few days later, I call again and was on the phone with a fella for just a few minutes and I'll be darned, if he didn't say the same thing. After reading these reviews, I notice one common trend: people who are unhappy with services, or feel they were scammed almost always write reviews. People: if you can't get to a phone to cancel an account, it may mean you are lazy. If you sign up for an account, put your credit card information in, and then forget about it, expect to be charged. Scam? Hell no. Homestead/Intuit is a great company for the basic website user. Is this for someone who wants to make a site to make their millions? Probably not. Is it for someone who needs a basic site to promote their business? Yes! Homestead/Intuit is one of the few companies online today that you can call, and get real tech support for a product. Try building a site with HTML and getting tech support. Not going to happen. If you know how to use HTML code, then don't use Intuit/Homestaed if you don't want to. With very few exceptions I have never had as frustrating business relationship as I have had with Homestead and Intuit in general.

I started with a web site hosted by another company for the last 10 years. After buying a Quickbooks product I was sold a lie.

I was sold the web site hosting service, web site design service, storefront and optimization service. All were supposed to be able to be integrated.

They can not be integrated after all, I find this out after months and months of work and thousands of dollars I paid them.

My online business traffic has fallen by 65% from what it was with the old web hosting service I was using. Homesteads SEO optimization system I overpaid for apparently does not work.

Their customer service, while polite, is a disaster. I get someone who knows what is going on maybe every third or forth try. On-Hold times have been anywhere from 15 min to over an hour. Transferred three-four times, cut off during a transfer etc..

I have had deductions made from my bank account every month for two years now, despite not having made use of even the trial website. I simply took a look at the templates, didn't want to use any, and sent an email asking Homestead to not make any further deductions. I live in South Africa, and cannot phone a call centre in America to ask them to cancel a deduction, which they are doing manually each month, when a simple email should suffice. Surely they have made enough money from me, without providing any service of any kind at all, and we can call it quits now?

Well, at present, I have 5 websites built by me, and done completely through Homestead. Their customer support is EXCELLENT, their pricing is a bit steep, but it was marvelous for a "newbie" as I was years ago, to be able to get up and running fast and logically. I find their website builder to be easy to understand, fast, efficient, and user-friendly. Have never had any problems with them. Anything I did not understand was answered promptly, and on the first call. The only thing I'd like to see changed, is their pricing. Have been EXTREMELY pleased, and I have used other web hosts and sitebuilders. No complaints from me!

BEWARE of this overprices service claiming to be a leadin gprovider in ECOMMERCE SOLUTIONS. What a joke. You can't get a "decent" package under 20 bucks a month and by decent i mean the bare minnimum. What they do not tell you is for one, their "web builder" has NO SEO FEATURES at least for anyone interested in ranking in the search engines. Keywords and meta tags are it...no headers, no blog, no rss feed that works, the few times i have actually checked my own website from another location other than my home, it has been DOWN, this host is simply for those looking for a personal website. Furthermore, the 'customer service" is VERY rude, they don't know shit, and they assume all callers are morons and can't follow the b.s. If you challenge them to any sort of SEO-related questions, they get angry. THEY ARE VERY BEHIND IN TECHNOLOGY. STAY AWAY!

I had a client who worked with Homestead. Their control panel was worthless. As a web designer, I'm used to actually uploading files via plain, good old FTP. They required me to jump through hoops, using their homebrewed website design application in order to upload files, and it was not easy for me to download website files from their servers.

Second, Homestead is extremely dishonest in its business dealings. My client lacked the foresight, when he decided to go with another web hosting company, to unlock his domain name and obtain the authorization code to transfer his domain. He defaulted on his monthly charge, and subsequently Homestead denied him access to his control panel (as they were well within their rights to do). However, they would not release his domain name which he has much invested in. These folks try hard but are overpriced for what you get. There are no Frontpage extensions and they use SiteBuilder software, which I think is inferior IF you know HTML code (I do) . I have talked to knowledgeable folks at homestead and some not so bright customer reps too. Overall its not bad. Just kinda... average. The price is too high for what you get and there is an awful lot of 'upselling' going on. They assume most people are not hip to selling on the Internet and thats when they try to sell you packages you do not need. Lots of glitches in their Zimbra mail client also.

I set up my web site with Homestead, it was easy. I also got my domain name from them OK.
I joined they Searchlight to get listed during a search but it has been a painful experiance. I have Email them a large number of times, changed my hit works,
called, asked for someone to call me.
When I signed up the SALESPERSON said someone would call me but never did.

Not worth the price.

I found Homestead to be very difficult to navigate when setting up my web site store front. Product entries require jumping from page to page and re-entering all information, even when it is identical for all products.

The Help Center is slow to respond and usually the response is totally unrelated to the question asked.

I use their 20.00 plan and plan on upgrading to their 49.99 plan. I have had no problems with them what so ever. I even got a call the next day welcoming me to the homestead family. I don't plan on going with anyone else and have recommended them many times to friends and family that are thinking about getting their own website.
