😠 Worst experience of all time!
They add charges with zero notification. They give multiple invoices and oversight charges so you can and will pay twice for services. When renewing once you pay all your required fees plus the additional charges they never notified you about, they still block access and force you to upgrade saying you are out of storage even when you know how much storage is used. They don't respond to raised tickets or emails. You can't access them on phone you have to physically go for each and every issue thats never really resolved. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND

😠 Very poor Team
They train customer service people to check whether hosting works. If we have a technical request they say you have to consult your developer. When you say it's you a developer or ur developer asking for certain permissions, they regurgitate same ignorant remarks.

(3*) 🔧 Services: Web HostingDomain RegistrationTelecomData Center Own datacenter⇔ Redirected from safaricombusiness.co.ke
Safaricom PLC is first and foremost Kenya’s dominant telecom and mobile money provider, but over the last years they have built out a complementary Safaricom Cloud Services platform for domains, shared web hosting, business email, and SSL certificates, aimed mainly at Kenyan SMEs that already live inside the Safaricom ecosystem. The hosting storefront runs on
domains.safaricom.co.ke and is tightly integrated with M-PESA and Safaricom Business support, with all pricing in Kenyan Shillings (Ksh). On the pure hosting side, the catalog is straightforward: a single line of Linux shared hosting packages under the Shared Hosting category. There is no separate "WordPress hosting", reseller hosting, or developer-focused VPS/dedicated range exposed in this online store, although Safaricom Business does mention virtual servers (VPS) and broader cloud services for larger projects on the corporate site. For a small business that just wants a website and email on a Kenyan provider, the shared hosting line is the core offer.
Shared hosting comes in six tiers – Bronze, Silver, Gold, Premium, Enterprise, and Enterprise Plus. All of them share the same basic pattern:
- Hosting on Safaricom Cloud infrastructure
- Unlimited bandwidth
- Plenty of email accounts tied to your own domain
- Free email security (SPF, DKIM, DMARC configuration)
- A bundled website builder
- Multiple subdomains and FTP accounts
Storage and email capacity scale quickly as you move up. Bronze is clearly built for micro-sites: 500 MB of space, 10 email accounts, and 5 subdomains. Silver already jumps to 2 GB of space and 50 email accounts, while Gold and Premium raise this to 10 GB / 100 emails and 20 GB / 200 emails respectively, with matching increases in allowed subdomains and FTP accounts. At the top end, Enterprise and Enterprise Plus are aimed at busier organizations, offering up to 100 GB of space, 1,000 email accounts, hundreds of subdomains and dozens of FTP logins, still with unlimited traffic and the same building tools included.
Domains are handled in the same portal. Safaricom sells .ke country-code domains (like .co.ke and .ke) alongside global TLDs such as .com and .org. Pricing is competitive for the local market and clearly targeted at Kenyan businesses: .com domains are offered around the Ksh 999/year range, .co.ke around Ksh 1,300/year, while the shorter .ke extension sits significantly higher. Prices are indicated as VAT inclusive, which simplifies budgeting for local companies.
The platform also includes a small but useful SSL certificate store. Customers can add DV and OV SSL certificates (for single domains, wildcard and multi-domain), from well-known certificate brands, directly from the same cart. That makes it possible to register a domain, attach a hosting plan, and enable HTTPS in one flow, all billed in Kenyan shillings.
From a control and usability perspective, the environment is familiar to most admins: Safaricom’s shared hosting uses cPanel. The knowledgebase and tag cloud reference cPanel Website, RVSiteBuilder for drag-and-drop site creation, PHP Selector, and JetBackup for backup/restore operations. Email integrates with webmail as well as desktop/mobile clients, and there is a focus on business email security via SPF/DKIM/DMARC entries to keep messages out of spam.
One interesting detail is language coverage. The Safaricom Cloud Services portal itself can be switched into over twenty languages, including English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Turkish, Russian, Romanian, German, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Ukrainian and others. Despite that, the service, contacts and legal documents are clearly anchored in Kenya, with support naturally geared around local customers and Safaricom Business accounts.
Overall, this is a simple, locally-anchored hosting offer: classic cPanel shared hosting backed by Safaricom’s own data-centre footprint and M-PESA integration, rather than a broad international hosting platform with dozens of product lines. For small and medium Kenyan businesses that already bill other services through Safaricom, that tight integration is the main appeal.
💰 Price & Cost
Safaricom’s pricing structure is intentionally easy to parse: everything in Kenyan Shillings (Ksh), billed yearly for shared hosting.
For shared hosting, the six main plans are:
Bronze – Ksh 1,500/year / Silver – Ksh 2,500/year / Gold – Ksh 4,000/year / Premium – Ksh 5,000/year / Enterprise – Ksh 7,100/year / Enterprise Plus – Ksh 9,000/year
All plans show free website builder and free email security as standard, and there are promotional bundles like the "Bronze Safaricom@24" which occasionally add discounts and slightly tweaked limits as part of anniversary campaigns.
For domain pricing, the portal gives concrete figures such as:
- .com domain – around Ksh 999/year
- .co.ke domain – around Ksh 1,300/year
- .ke domain – around Ksh 7,000/year
These prices are explicitly marked as inclusive of VAT, which matters for businesses tracking tax.
The SSL store carries several products (e.g. entry-level Comodo PositiveSSL and higher-end wildcard and multi-domain certificates) in Ksh, generally in the low to mid-thousands of shillings per year depending on the validation level and coverage.
When it comes to payment methods, Safaricom leans heavily on its own rails. Orders for domains and hosting are paid primarily via M-PESA, either through a push prompt or Paybill instructions after the order is placed. The flow is clearly explained in the FAQs and fits naturally into how Kenyan customers already pay for other Safaricom services.
On refunds and guarantees, there is no classic "30-day money-back guarantee" for shared hosting. The general Terms of Service talk about:
- Deposits being refundable (without interest) when applicable, minus any outstanding charges
- Unutilised resources in service bundles not being refunded when you terminate
- Service credits as the remedy for failing to meet service levels, under a separate Service Level Agreement (SLA)
So this is more of a telecom-style contract model than the flexible refund policies seen at some pure hosting brands. Customers should assume that once paid, standard hosting fees are not refundable, aside from very specific deposit scenarios.
🏢 Data Center
A key advantage Safaricom brings to hosting is that it owns and operates a substantial national network and data-centre footprint in Kenya.
The company’s headquarters at Safaricom House, Waiyaki Way in Westlands (Nairobi) is the hub of a wider infrastructure that includes multiple data-centers and a dense mobile and fibre network across the country. Safaricom has publicly announced Tier III design certification for its data-centre facilities and has opened new locations such as the Kapsoya data centre, aimed at high-availability enterprise workloads. More recently, Safaricom entered a strategic partnership with iXAfrica Data Centres / ixafrica.co.ke to deliver "AI-ready" infrastructure, which further signals long-term investment in modern, carrier-grade facilities.
For hosting customers this translates into:
- Websites and email hosted on Safaricom Cloud inside Safaricom-owned facilities in Kenya, rather than outsourced overseas
- Local network latency for Kenyan users thanks to direct connectivity to Safaricom’s backbone
- The assurance that the same operator running M-PESA and national mobile infrastructure is behind the hosting platform
Regarding an uptime guarantee, the picture is mixed:
- Safaricom’s Cloud Services offers a Service Level Agreement with service credits as the remedy for outages, which is standard in enterprise ICT contracts.
- The shared hosting plans themselves do not publish a specific numeric uptime percentage (for example, "99.9% uptime") .
In practice, customers rely on Safaricom’s Tier III-class design and telecom-grade network reliability, with SLA-driven service credits rather than a public, consumer-style uptime guarantee. Anyone needing a tight, contractually explicit SLA should discuss this under a broader Safaricom Business or cloud contract rather than assuming it applies to basic shared hosting automatically.
✍️ Customer Support
Support for Safaricom’s hosting offering sits inside the wider Safaricom Business support structure, with multiple channels available:
- A built-in support area in the Safaricom Cloud portal, including:
- Knowledgebase articles for domain, hosting, email and backup tasks
- A ticketing system ("Open Ticket")
- A Network Status page
- Contact options like "Contact Us" in the portal footer, which link to form-based enquiries
- Direct email support for business customers, including addresses such as business.support@safaricom
- Telephone support via Safaricom’s main business and customer-care numbers, which are widely published and reachable country-wide
The knowledgebase is reasonably practical, with entries that walk through:
- Registering and activating a domain + web hosting package
- Using the website builder
- Configuring business email on common clients
- Using JetBackup and other cPanel tools for self-service restoration
Because support sits within a big telecom provider rather than a niche hosting company, there is clearly a lot of capacity on the phone and general help desks. At the same time, the public information does not promise a dedicated 24/7 hosting-only support team or specific response-time guarantees for shared hosting tickets. For basic issues (billing, M-PESA payments, password resets, simple email configuration), the multi-channel contact options are a strong plus. For very advanced hosting or development problems, expectations should be calibrated accordingly.
🔨 Control Panel
Safaricom’s shared hosting uses cPanel as the primary control panel, which is familiar territory for anyone who has used mainstream hosting before.
The following elements stand out:
- cPanel Website access for each hosting account
- RVSiteBuilder integrated as a drag-and-drop website builder, suitable for simple corporate sites and landing pages
- A PHP Selector, indicating you can switch between different PHP versions directly from the panel
- JetBackup integration, with options referenced for:
Domains and billing are managed via the Safaricom Cloud Services client area (WHMCS-style), where customers can:
- Register and renew domains
- Order hosting packages and SSL certificates
- View invoices, manage contact details and KRA PIN where relevant
- Raise support tickets and change language/currency display (always billed in Ksh. KES, but interface language can be changed)
For the typical Kenyan SME, this mix of cPanel + portal is more than adequate, and the learning curve is relatively gentle given the abundance of guides and a visual website builder.
🎯 Conclusion
Safaricom’s hosting offer is very much what you would expect from a national telecom giant extending into cloud and web services:Strengths:
- Strong local anchoring – Services hosted in Safaricom’s own Kenyan data centres, on the same network that powers M-PESA and national mobile coverage.
- Simple, predictable plans – Six shared hosting tiers with clear storage and email allocations, all on unlimited bandwidth, and straightforward annual pricing in Ksh.
- Integrated stack for SMEs – Domain registration, web hosting, business email and SSL can all be acquired together, billed via M-PESA, and supported through Safaricom Business channels.
- Familiar tools – cPanel, website builder, JetBackup and email security features will feel comfortable to many admins.
- Wide language support in the cloud portal, which is helpful for international teams working with Kenyan clients.
Limitations:
- The online storefront focuses exclusively on shared hosting; there is no self-service VPS, dedicated, or container hosting exposed for developers. Those options exist only in the broader Safaricom Business and cloud portfolio, and generally need account-manager engagement.
- There is no explicit numeric uptime guarantee advertised on the shared hosting pages, and no classic money-back window for small hosting customers. Compensation is based on SLA-driven service credits, which is more enterprise-style than consumer-friendly.
- Because support lives inside a large telecom contact-centre environment, it is excellent for payment and basic configuration issues, but may feel less tailored than the deep, niche support cultures found at specialist web-hosting companies.
For a Kenyan small or medium business that already relies heavily on Safaricom for connectivity and M-PESA, and that needs a simple website + email presence with local billing and local infrastructure, Safaricom Cloud Services is a logical and convenient choice. Power users who want advanced hosting features, highly detailed SLAs, or multi-region infrastructure will likely need either to step up into Safaricom’s full enterprise cloud contracts or look at more specialised hosting providers.

😠 Excessively poor and incompetent support. The technical support team knows very little on issues to do with hosting. And, a single-click support request will take about 48 hours to receive feedback and another 48 hours to receive support.

Their support team is not technical and they would never understand any technical issue. I would recommend the company to get better technical team on their support desk
