May, 2001 : IBM Ships Quantum Super DLTtape Storage Products
📅 - Quantum Corporation (quantum.com), a global leader in data protection, announced on Tuesday that computer manufacturing giant IBM Corp. (ibm.com), a Quantum OEM customer, had begun shipping the company's Super DLTtape products to its customers. The IBM 110/220 GB SDLT SCSI Tape Drive is the latest member of the IBM family of DLTtape offerings for the IBM Intel-based eServer systems.
According to Quantum, as businesses experience rapid growth in the amount of data they need to store, IT organizations face a shrinking window of time available for backing up critical data. The company says its Super DLTtape drive will offer IBM customers a powerful tool for managing their data back-up and protection needs. The product offers almost three times the capacity and double the speed of the highest capacity tape DLTtape drive previously offered by IBM.
IBM says that with the explosion of e-business and consumer demand for digital storage, storage systems are beginning to play a greater role in its customers? infrastructure. The company says that offering the new drive will offer customers increased performance and reliability, as well as backward compatibility across its DLTtape storage products.
Quantum says the Super DLTtape technology is the only tape technology in its class to offer IBM's customers backward-read compatibility with their older-generation DLT drives, as well as providing the performance, reliability and dependability that the company expects of its products.
