May 1, 2001 : Digex Launches Sun StorEdge T3 Array

📅 - Digex Inc. (digex.com), a leading provider of managed Web and application hosting services, announced on Tuesday that it is expanding its storage offerings by adding the Sun T3 array for the enterprise client. The Sun StorEdge T3 array is a storage system designed to offer the enterprise optimal storage performance.

Digex says it was the first service provider to achieve Sun's SunTone certification for its managed Web and application hosting services, and is now offering the StorEdge solution to meet the changing needs of its clients.
The Sun StorEdge T3 array, says Digex, is an extremely flexible, yet simple, storage array designed to be configured for either high-bandwidth or high-latency applications. The array gives customers the benefit of predictable, incremental availability and performance, with a capacity that can be increased to a massive scale on a single server.
The high availability is provided through redundant controllers with mirrored cache, automatic data path fail-over and redundant power cooling with two data paths for every nine drives.
The array allows Digex to provide a Sun solution from end to end for customers who prefer a single-vendor configuration. The StorEdge array includes Sun servers, the Solaris 8 Operating Environment, iPlanet software and Sun StorEdge T3 arrays.
Digex says that storage systems have recently shifted in importance from a periphery piece of equipment to a key component of a full business solution. The company says its engineers tested the Sun T3 product extensively in the Digex Unified Lab prior to launching the offering.
