May 3, 2001 : Digex Broadens Management Team
📅 - Digex Inc. (digex.com), a leading managed Web and application hosting service provider, announced on Thursday that it had made two new additions to its executive team: Sandy Blaisdell, senior vice president of the WorldCom Business Unit, and George Kerns, senior vice president of Operations.
Blaisdell's responsibilities will include managing and growing Digex's strategic relationship with WorldCom. The job includes sales channel development, process design and optimization, international objectives and overall support issues related to WorldCom. She will also be responsible for coordinating the global build-out of Digex's SmartCenters within the WorldCom facilities, domestically and internationally.
According to Digex, Blaisdell has a strong background in managing large, international organizations, having recently served as vice president of Network Service Delivery at PSINet. She holds an MS degree from Purdue University.
George Kerns will be responsible for the company's technical operations worldwide, including application and server management, network operations, data center operations and customer support.
According to Digex, Kerns has more than 20 years of experience in executive management and data operations. He is joining the company from HarvardNet, where he held the position of COO. Prior to that, Kerns served as senior vice president and manager of Customer Services Delivery for BBN Planet/GTE Internetworking, and as VP of infrastructure and engineering at EDS, as well as CIO for Contel Cellular. Kerns holds an MBA from the University of Georgia.
The company says that with the expanding demand for managed hosting services, it must ensure that its organization grows to address those needs. Digex says that with the addition of Blaisdell and Kerns, the company is well positioned to extend its business globally.
