Sep, 2001 : Tzolkin Introduces Automatic Failover Service
📅 - The Tzolkin Corporation (tzo.com), a leader in dynamic DNSsolutions, has announced the release of AutoFailover (autofailover.com), aserver monitoring, load balancing, and automatic failover service thatensures the high-availability of critical Internet e-business servers anddata. By using AutoFailover, a Tzolkin customer can maintain an onlinepresence even when an Internet server fails or loses its Internetconnection.
AutoFailover is built on Tzolkin's TZO Dynamic DNS service, a service whosereliability has been tested and proven in almost five years of commercialuse. Because its foundation is the TZO Dynamic DNS service AutoFailoversupports servers having either a static or dynamic IP address. There are twoversions of AutoFailover, the Enterprise and the SOHO version, eachaddressing a different market.
AutoFailover Enterprise is designed for small to medium businesses that havea back-up server for each of their Internet servers. Commonly they installthe back-up servers at a different location and connect it to the Internetthrough a different service provider. AutoFailover monitors the availabilityof both of the customer's servers and if the primary server becomesunavailable AutoFailover notifies the customer and automatically changes theDNS record so that the customer's domain name is resolved to the IP addressof the customer's alternate server. In addition, AutoFailover Enterprise canalso perform "round robin" load balancing. The customer can choose one offive protocols, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP, FTP, or POP3, for AutoFailover tomonitor.
AutoFailover SOHO is designed for small businesses, associations, andindividuals running their own Internet servers. The customer can back-up thecontents of the Web server on the free Web space offered by most ISP's andcan back up their mail server with a free commercial mail box. AutoFailoverSOHO monitors the customer's server and should the server fail AutoFailoverSOHO automatically routes client requests to the backup Web server orback-up mailbox.
John Walsh, director of hosting at Internoded Inc. said, "Tzolkin'sAutoFailover service is a perfect complement to the replication capabilityof Lotus Domino. We love this service not only because it's a reliable sitemonitoring service but also because it automatically switches traffic overto a mirrored site if a site ever goes down. This is an evolutionary servicethat is helping us keep up with the increasing demands of Internetbusinesses."
