Sep, 2001 : Sys-Con 2001 Expo Opens In NYC as Planned


📅 - Sys-Con Events (sys-con.com) announced that its two East Coast "Edge" events - JDJEdge 2001 International Java Developer Conference & Expo and Web Services Edge 2001 International Web Services Conference & Expo East - will be held as planned. The dual conference and expo will be held Sept. 23-26 at the Hilton New York.

The Conference education tracks began on Sunday, Sept. 23. The first JDJEdge2001 keynote will be delivered by James Gosling, VP and fellow, SunMicrosystems and the "father" of Java, on Monday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m. TheExpo floor will remain open on Monday, from 12 p.m.-7 p.m. and on Tuesdayfrom 10:30-6:00. Detailed information on JDJEdge 2001 and Web Services Edge2001 East can be obtained from the conference Web sites at sys-con.com.
The Sys-Con Events team issued the following statement to its conferenceattendees on Sept. 13:
"The tragedies that occurred in New York, Washington DC, and Pennsylvaniacontinue to reverberate around the world. Today we are still reeling fromthe pain, and it will never be forgotten. The famous New York City skyline,now destroyed, will remain a constant reminder of everyone and everythingthat's been lost. However, the terrorists have failed to destroy theAmerican spirit. This has been clear in the past 48 hours as the people ofNew York continue to show their heroic bravery.
"After careful and heartfelt consideration and consultations with governmentofficials, as well as our key partners in the events, we have decided to goahead with all conference activities scheduled for Web Services Edge 2001East and JDJEdge 2001. The conferences will be held as planned at the HiltonNew York, Sept. 23-26. The Hilton New York is located in upper midtown at1335 Avenue of the Americas, between W.53rd and W.54th Streets, severalmiles north of the World Trade Center.
"In making this decision, we took into account the message that ourpolitical, spiritual, and industry leaders have stressed: we can't let avicious act committed by a few evil people change our way of life. We alsotook into account that over a year of planning has gone into this event.Thousands of people and companies are involved. The presentations on bothexhibitor and speaker fronts represent the very finest state-of-the-arttechnology available - to be shared by all those who want to advance intheir fields."
As of today, more than 150 leading Java, XML and Web Services companies willparticipate in this year's Web Services Edge (East and West) conferenceprograms, as faculty, sponsors, and exhibitors.
