Sep, 2001 : Lycos Europe Chooses Ebone for Backbone Services

📅 September 20, 2001 - Lycos Europe (lycos-europe.com), aleading European Internet portal, and mediaWays(mediaways.net), the largest IP-business provider in Germany, have signed a three-year, multi-million euroagreement to use Ebone's IP and broadband network. Asa result, Lycos Europe customers and partners shouldreceive quicker and more accurate access to itsEuropean websites and multi-media content.

Under the terms of the deal, Ebone (ebone.com) willact as sub-contractor to mediaWays GmbH, responsiblefor managing the agreement. As a full service partner,mediaWays delivers consulting, backbone and hostingservices to Lycos Europe.
Lycos Europe and mediaWays say they chose Ebonebecause of the quality, speed and reach of Ebone'span-European IP network - covering Eastern Europe,Southern Europe and Scandinavia as well as most ofWestern Europe - and because of Ebone's reputation asEurope's most experienced IP network provider. Alsoimportant were Ebone's capability to provide streamingmedia solutions; Ebone's expertise and experience incontent delivery; and its ability to supportsophisticated interactive applications.
The companies also wanted to work with Ebone becauseof access to other Ebone network users. These comprisemost of Europe's major Internet service providers,many of which provide Lycos Europe portals and contentto their customers. In the future, Lycos Europe plansto use Ebone's IP network capacity as part of a"portal-in-a-box" solution it is developing forbusiness customers.

Vandervort added that Ebone's guaranteed performanceservice level agreements and its flexibility inworking with other vendors to provide Lycos Europewith the best solution were also key factors inselecting Ebone.

Ebone will provide broadband connection between Paris,Guetersloh (Lycos Europe's headquarters in Germany)and Stockholm, IP connectivity within the same citiesand a city enterprise network in Paris. Lycos Europewill use Ebone's online management and supportfacility which enables customers to monitor and managenetwork performance in real-time via the Internet.
