May, 2002 : Microsoft Outlines Future of Platform Management
📅 - Microsoft (microsoft.com), one of the world's largest providers of software technologies, today unveiled its vision for the future of management solutions using Windows-based products.
Brain Valentine, senior vice president for Microsoft's Windows division, said its management solutions would revolve around the company's Server Manager project and its Client Manager project.
Microsoft's Server Manager project is based upon the core functionality of Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2000, Systems Management Server 2.0 and Application Center 2000, utilities which assist administrators in managing their Windows-based systems in a cost-efficient manner. The company said future versions would provide IT professionals with an end-to-end solution that would include the ability to manage distributed services both inside and outside a company.
The company's Client Manager, which is built upon builds its Systems Management Server 2003 (formerly named "Topaz"), will make it easier for users and administrators to co-ordinate communication between mobile devices, desktop computers and pocket PCs.
Both systems build upon the company's .NET distributed computing platform.
"With the Server Manager project and the Client Manager project, Microsoft is building on core components of Windows and .NET, developing solutions for customers of all sizes, and collaborating to offer extensible solutions for the enterprise - with the overall objective of helping customers better manage their business," Valentine said.
Microsoft said it would "deliver a series of service offerings providing both product and prescriptive content" later this summer.
