May, 2002 : Plesk, iXsystems Debut Domain Migration Program

📅 - Server manufacturer iXsystems Inc. (ixsystems.net) and server management software developer Plesk Software (plesk.com) announced on Tuesday the debut of their joint Domain Migration Program.

The program is designed to help hosting providers migrate their domains from Sun Cobalt appliances to iXsystems servers running the Plesk Server Administrator. The iXsystems platform, say the companies, can support four times as many domains as a Cobalt appliance.
As part of the program, iXsystems will offer a special bundled price that includes domain migration service and a rack-optimized server pre-installed and configured with the PSA software.
"A Cobalt appliance is limited to a maximum of 250 domains on a fixed hardware and software configuration, while an inexpensive 1U rackmount server from iXsystems running PSA and Linux or FreeBSD can easily host 1000 or more domains," says George Pappas, president and CEO of Plesk."This translates to far greater revenue and flexibility for the hosting provider in the same rack space."
In the past, say the companies, a service provider that wanted to switch platforms had to manually move all customer configuration and technical parameters to a new machine. The Domain Migration Service includes utilities and professional services designed to accomplish the migration in a fraction of the time.
"We are teaming up with Plesk to eliminate hosting providers' dependence on appliances that quickly become obsolete," says Bob Spina, president and CEO of iXsystems. "Plesk and iXsystems are championing the open, flexible computing that is vital to our customers' return on investment."
