May, 2002 : French Government selects Akamai for Web Portal

📅 May 3, 2002 - France's Ministry of Interior has selected Akamai Technologies, Inc., (Akamai.com) a leading provider of secure, outsourced e-business infrastructure services and software, to power its new Web portal, www.interieur.gouv.fr.

The new portal was designed to make the Ministry's communications more accessible and dynamic, especially during times of crisis; increase the level of interactivity with Internet users; and provide easier access to many information and administration services that will progressively be made available online.
"The French Ministry of Interior's portal is a public service site and therefore has a tremendous potential audience," said Jerome Gruber, project manager and new technologies advisor to the French Ministry of Interior. "The high standards we maintained during the first round of elections have allowed us to confirm our decision for a decentralized architecture based on Akamai's EdgeSuite service."
The Ministry's portal has become the leading source of information for official election results for the French population and international press. Following the recent first round of presidential elections, the site recorded millions of page views in a matter of days.
The portal makes use of Akamai's Edgesuite, an integrated suite of services for content and application delivery, content targeting and personalization, business intelligent and streaming media.
