Oct 8, 2003 : SUSE LINUX Releases Standard Server 8


📅 - SUSE LINUX released today SUSE LINUX (suse.co.uk) Standard Server 8. The latest SUSE LINUX platform is available for Intel (intel.com) and AMD (amd.com) 32-bit processors (x86) and supports up to two CPUs.

The company said the new operating system is targeted at small and medium-sized businesses. "By expanding the SUSE LINUX Server family with SUSE LINUX Standard Server, we give smaller organizations and departments a versatile solution that incorporates all the functionality they expect from a server operating system," said Juergen Geck, chief technology officer of SUSE LINUX. "Customers will be excited about Standard Server's usability, saving both time and costs for the implementation and administration of their IT networks."
According to the company, SUSE LINUX Standard Server 8's graphical interface enables easy setup and deployment. The platform also features Web-based remote administration and provides secure access through a virtual private network (VPN).
User data is administered in a central directory service, and the administration of permissions using access control lists ensures data security and the configuration and modification of the ACLs can even from occur remote hosts, the company said.
SUSE LINUX Standard Server 8 is available at the beginning of November for £367.78.
