Oct 9, 2003 : Hostopia Releases Enhanced Spam Filter

📅 October 9, 2003 - Hostopia (hostopia.com ) released Spam Filter 2.0 yesterday, a hosted application that comes bundled with Hostopia's Web hosting and e-mail services.

Acording to the company, the application allows business e-mail users to avoid undesirable junk mail while preserving e-mail that is falsely identified as spam by weaker filters.
"Nearly half of all daily received e-mail is considered spam. These unsolicited e-mails not only waste business users? valuable time, but also take up a significant amount of network bandwidth," said Franc Nemanic, president of Hostopia. "If there's one thing worse than being inundated with spam, it's losing valuable business e-mail incorrectly identified and filtered as spam. Spam Filter 2.0 handles all mail with optimal, user preferred treatment."
Spam Filter 2.0 operates two levels of spam detection, with "white list" and "black list" capabilities allowing or rejecting e-mail received from addresses and domains specified by the user.
The application also incorporates mail delivery options. Spam Filter 2.0 can be set to automatically delete e-mail classified as spam or quarantine it so that users can review and recover mail that is incorrectly marked as spam.
Users can also use Spam Filter 2.0 to eliminate undesirable e-mail based on language criteria.

Just less than a year ago, Hostopia itself was acquired by Deluxe Corporation for about $124 million Canadian.

According to the press release, the sale allows CI Host and Cassiopeia Internet to "focus on their managed, dedicated and colocation hosting for their mid and large market enterprise customers while ensuring improved services for the accounts to be acquired by X7 Hosting."
