Donhost was established in 2000 as a reseller of another hosting company's services by Daniel Conlon. Donhost expanded rapidly and moved to their own servers in a shared data centre in mid 2001.
The real world experience Daniel had of reselling gave him an understanding of the limitations and inadequacies of reseller solutions on the market at that time, enabling him to create the perfect reseller solution.
In April 2005 Donhost became part of tier 1 ISP PIPEX communications (currently known as GX Networks from Mar 08). PIPEX specialises in a range of internet services including internet access, security services and voice services and is the chosen provider for most of the Times' Top 100 UK Companies.

😠 Donhost is unfit for purpose
I've been struggling to update my site(s) for some time and wondered why.
I've had some professionals look at my donhost server and here are their findings:
" We examined your hosting thoroughly. It is very outdated and does not comply with modern website requirements. It is running Apache 1.3.41, which was released in January 2008, PHP 5.2.10 (released in June 2009) and MySQL 5.1.22 (released in September 2007). The software is set up more than 6 years ago and no modern website will run in such an outdated environment. Even worse, this versions of software are unsupported by its vendors and do not receive security updates. And finally, the server is not configured to support .htaccess dynamic configuration and mod_rewrite Apache module, which is also required by Wordpress (and nearly any other contemporary website engine)."
I am shocked as I've been a customer for 15 years but seems I've been paying over the top for an inferior product for at least 6 years apparently.
