Jan, 2004 : Keynote Measures Political Site Streaming

📅 - Web performance measurement, testing and management company Keynote Systems (keynote.com) revealed ten days worth of initial data compiled from its measurement of the streaming performances of the Web sites supporting the presidential bids of John Edwards, Richard Gephardt, Howard Dean, John Kerry, Joseph Lieberman, Dennis Kucinich and President George Bush.

Keynote compiled the data from its Streaming Perspective service, testing streams for 10 days starting on January 9 at 5:00pm Eastern.
According to the results, the Web sites for John Edwards, Dick Gephardt, John Kerry and Joseph Lieberman all had availability numbers of 99.9 percent or better. Keynote considered this "excellent."
Keynote found that performance for George Bush's site was "good," recording availability numbers of 99.8 percent, while performance for the Kucinich site was "dismal," coming in at 84.3 percent. Howard Dean's site had mixed results with its Windows Media stream recording 99.8 percent availability and its QuickTime streaming only 62 percent.
"The performance of all the presidential candidates' sites is more critical than in election years past as the campaigns are relying more heavily than ever on high functioning, highly available sites," said Roopak Patel, senior Internet analyst for the public services division at Keynote. "As those sites incorporate bandwidth-intensive features such as streaming video, ensuring a good user experience becomes harder."
Keynote announced last week that it was measuring the transaction performances of the Web sites for the leading presidential candidates. Earlier in the month, the company said it would monitor the download performances for the same group of sites.
