Aug 3, 2004 : Home Depot Moves Data Center to Austin
📅 - Home Depot (homedepot.com) confirmed last week that it is moving its data center operations from Atlanta, Georgia to Austin, Texas, according to the Austin Business Journal. Company executives say the facility will house $250 million of equipment and employ 500 people within 18 months. The data center will link more than 1,700 Home Depot stores.
Bob DeRodes, executive vice president and chief information officer for Home Depot, said in the report that the company decided to relocate to Austin because of the business-friendly environment of the state of Texas. He added that proximity to a major university and access to a skilled talent pool were other favorable factors. Austin has been trying to lure Home Depot to the city for several months. In June, Austin City Council approved a 10-year property tax exemption worth $7.2 million as part of its efforts.
