Aug 4, 2004 : Novell Unveils New Suse Linux Platform

📅 - Novell (novell.com) announced on Wednesday that it has released Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9. The company said the latest release extends the company's lead in the Linux market by offering the first enterprise-class Linux server built on the new Linux 2.6 kernel and supported by hardware and software vendors, including AMD, Computer Associates, HP, IBM, Intel, Oracle and others.

Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9 features integrated management capabilities, including support for ZENworks Linux Management, which allows IT professionals to more easily deploy, configure and update Linux servers. The system also comes with enhanced security and an indemnification program that protects users from third-party litigation.
"With the release of Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9, Novell is giving customers compelling reasons to deploy Linux at the core of their business," says Jack Messman, chairman and CEO of Novell. "It's secure, it's reliable, it scales, and its manageability is unbeatable. Novell's extensive partner community, global support infrastructure and indemnification program offer customers the ability to deploy Linux with confidence."
Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9, the company said, includes management capabilities that lower the deployment and administration costs of Linux systems. The system also supports several third party applications, including Samba 3 file and print services, Apache Web Server, Java, Tomcat, JBoss and a number of network services.
Novell completed its acquisition of Suse Linux in January in a cash deal worth $210 million.
