Aug 4, 2004 : Red Hat Adds Java Application Server
📅 - Red Hat (redhat.com) announced the availability of its Java 2 Enterprise Edition application server this week, marking the first time a major Linux operating system vendor has released its own J2EE application server.
Red Hat's application server is built on a number of open source projects, including Enterprise Java Beans from ObjectWeb's Jonas and the Tomcat application server from the Apache Software Foundation. According to eWeek, Red Hat said it will be testing the application server to ensure interoperability with BEA, IBM and Oracle's J2EE application platforms. Red Hat said it is also working to integrate BEA, IBM and Oracle's contributions to the open source community in its application server to ensure interoperability. Paul Cormier, executive vice president of engineering at Red Hat, told eWeek that its release meets customer demands for an open source application server that is fully interoperable with existing J2EE vendors. Last week, Red Hat said it would sell support for Jonas, an open source Java application server developed by France-based ObjectWeb.
