Nov 1, 2004 : English AL-Jazeera Site Suffers Outage

📅 - According to a report by research and analysis firm Netcraft (netcraft.com), the English version of the Al-Jazeera Web site was offline for five hours yesterday, two days after it broadcast a video tape of Al Queda leader Osama Bin Laden. The Arab language version of the Web site was not affected.

The English language version of Al-Jazeera's Web site was launched in March of 2003 soon after the start of the US invasion of Iraq. The site was reportedly attacked in its first week of operation by hackers unhappy over the site's publication of US soldiers killed in Iraq.
The motive and source of the most recent attack on the site is not known. In the video broadcast, Osama Bin Laden took responsibility for the September 11 attacks and warned that more attacks would come if the US did not change its policies.
AL-Jazeera, based in Qatar, is the leading cable news network in the Middle East. The site is hosted by AT&T's (att.com) WorldNet Services.
