Apr, 2001 : BTI Telecom unveils southeast U.S. fiber network


📅 - BTI Telecom Corp. (btitele.com), a leading integrated communicationsprovider in the southeast United States, announced that it has completedconstruction of its 506 mile long-haul data, Internet and voice network fromRaleigh, NC to Savannah, Ga. This announcement marks the completion of BTI'splanned 4,300-mile fiber network that extends from New York to Miami andfrom Miami to Nashville.

With the completion of the Raleigh, NC to Savannah, Ga. dark fiber routecomes access to many emerging commerce hubs through the Carolinas'including; Fayetteville, NC, Wilmington, NC, Myrtle Beach, SC andCharleston, SC. BTI's president, Mike Newkirk said, "BTI is now perfectlypositioned to meet the exploding demand for bandwidth and advancedcommunications solutions among our customers up and down the East Coast.Owning and operating our own network gives us greater efficiencies inproviding telecommunications services. In addition, we are able to generaterevenue through leasing fiber, conduit, and collocation space to othercarriers."
BTI's long haul network uses Nortel Network's advanced Dense-WavelengthDivision Multiplexing (D-WDM) technology that multiplies the trafficcarrying capacity of fiber spans. "What this means for our customers isaccess to high-speed, reliable communication solutions that can grow withtheir needs," said Newkirk. BTI has already signed contracts to providecapacity and collocation space to other carriers who desire a presence inthe southeast.
