Corel teams up with Digital Island for faster content delivery

📅 March 27, 2001 - Corel Corporation (corel.com) has announce that it is partnering withDigital Island, Inc. (digitalisland.com) to accelerate its Webperformance, enabling fast and easy e-commerce transactions, softwaredownloads and access to the Corel Web site.

Customers can buy and download market-leading Corel products, includingWordPerfect, CorelDRAW and Corel PHOTO-PAINT, directly from the company'sWeb site at www.corel.com. In addition to speeding up the performance ofCorel's Web site, Digital Island's 'Footprint' content delivery networkservice makes downloading large software packages up to five times faster.The Footprint service stores content close to users at the edge of thenetwork and seamlessly directs queries to the nearest optimal server.
According to research firm Cahners/DataMonitor, Internet users spent anextra 2.5 billion hours waiting for Web pages to download in 1999. Each year78 per cent of all attempted Web transactions are discontinued due to slowresponse times. More than $1.6 billion in additional revenue could have beenmade if businesses worldwide had better Internet infrastructure services.
