These new 18 bring the total number ofcompanies that have met the criteria for accreditation as .com,.net and .org registrars to 179. Stability of the Internet andcontinuity for consumers are protected by the requirement thatevery business desiring to become a registrar in top-level domainsmust first become accredited by ICANN.

The company said it plans to refashion itself as a Web hosting services provider by acquiring hosting company Interland Inc. (interland.com ) in a $130 million stock deal.
