Apr 25, 2006 : IXEurope Acquires Munich Data Center
📅 - Data center provider IXEurope (ixeurope.com) announced on Friday that it has acquired its eleventh data center in Munich, and signed a six-year, £6.9 million contract with a major global Internet company.
The 11,600 square-meter Munich data center is IXEurope's fourth in Germany. It was built in 2000 for KPNQwest, for more than £17 million, to provide approximately 4,600 square meters of net data center space. IXEurope says it acquired the data center for a nominal amount together with a long lease for the property. IXEurope plans to invest approximately £1 million on refurbishing and upgrading the facility to bring the operational infrastructure in line with its other data centers.
The site will be open in phases over the next 12 months and is expected to become EBITDA positive within a short period as well as have an overall positive effect on Group 2006 EBITDA. The unspecified global Internet company with which IXEurope signed the six-year deal, already hosted in two other IXDatacentre locations in Europe, will become the first major occupant of the Munich IXDatacentre.
"The purchase of this substantial enterprise quality data center in Munich and the signing of our first major customer for the facility demonstrate our ability to acquire data centers at attractive prices with the support and trust of existing customers," says Guy Willner, CEO of IXEurope. "We now have well over a quarter of a million square feet of capacity when we include both existing and planned extensions to our 11-data-center portfolio."
