May 8, 2006 : Demand Media Names CEO
📅 - Web media firm Demand Media (demandmedia.com) announced on Friday that former MySpace chairman and CEO of Intermix Media, Richard Rosenblatt, will lead the newly created company as chairman and CEO. The announcement was made at the T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Domain Conference and Expo held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Last week, it was reported that Demand Media had acquired domain registrar and Web host eNom as well as Web content developer eHow. Leading executives from eHow, eNom, Yahoo! and Interactive Corporation, will be joining as part of the founding team. Demand Media plans to selectively acquire portfolios of premium domains that can be developed into high-growth niche media properties. According to Demand Media, the company has already raised $120 million in equity from leading investors for the creation of this next-generation Web media firm. "This is a new formula, combining components of the domain industry to form a very compelling platform for the next generation of media companies," says Rosenblatt. "Direct navigation traffic, combined with specific proprietary content and innovative marketing, will unlock an entirely new realm of Internet media. We look forward to working closely with the domain industry, as we build Demand Media into a global media enterprise." Founded in April 2006, Demand Media receives more than 25 million unique visitors per month through its more than 150,000 domain names and niche content Web sites.
