Other keynote presenters at the event included Verio's president and CEO Kiyoshi Maeda, senior vice president of global development and products Toshiyuki Yamasaki and VP of sales and marketing Steve Renda.

Officially titled "Trends Blueprint for Captialization" - following the "blueprint" thread for the conference - Eagle's 40-minute presentation covered several recent trends in the hosting market, offering an assessment of each as a threat, and exploring each for opportunities they might represent for smaller hosting providers.

), a program that took on more significance during the event, as the company announced its plans to transition its business toward a 100 percent indirect channel sales model over the course of 2009.

"I was really excited to participate, and to attend the conference," says Eagle. "Verio's partner program has a real sense of community around it. Even being a fly on the wall for some of the conversations between resellers, or between resellers and Verio engineers, was an extremely valuable experience."

Delivered at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17, Eagle's presentation covered some of the major trends currently impacting the hosting business, including the economic situation in the US and abroad, the industry's focus on cloud computing, and the business opportunities associated with some of the social media tools out there. One of his major points was that these trends are best digested with an awareness of the influence of hype, a point he illustrated with reference to the "green IT" trend.

"While I'm not necessarily a nuts-and-bolts type expert on any one particular aspect of the hosting business, I do have a lot of access to the real experts in just about every one of those buckets. As someone who covers the hosting business as a whole on a daily basis, I think I have a pretty unique vantage point when it comes to identifying trends. Rather than try to position myself as a pundit, I tried to bring that journalistic perspective to the presentation. I spent a lot of time interviewing experts, from within Verio and elsewhere, while I was preparing the presentation."

As with every other keynote session presented at the event, Eagle's presentation will soon be available via online webcast. We're not yet sure whether that will be available to everyone, or if it will be distributed to Verio partners via the company's partner portal. We'll let you know once it's posted.

Based on the feedback received so far, the presentation was well received by viaVerio partners.

"I had some positive feedback at the event, and have received some more since, via Facebook and Twitter. If anybody hated it, they've been kind enough not to tell me," says Eagle. "I'm looking forward to going after some more speaking opportunities at other events like this in the future."
