According to the results of Fujitsu-Siemens' tests released Thursday, the Primergy RX600 S4 data center-class rack server, set the new SPECweb2005 benchmark, created by non-profit organization Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (spec.org), which develops benchmarks, and reviews and publishes submitted results. The SPECweb2005 test measures machine performance as a web server, handling requests for static and dynamic page requests, and simulates three different workload scenarios.
In addition to speed, the winning server, equipped with multi-core processing from Intel's new Dunnington line, also packs redundancy features into its compact 4U rack module case. It featured four six-core Intel Xeon X7460 processors, 128 GB of memory and five Intel PRO /1000PT Quad-Port Gigabit Ethernet controllers according to technical details released by SPEC. Under approved test conditions, the Primergy RX600 S4 regained the world-record SPECweb2005 score of 51,395, breaking the former leading result of 50,013, as well as Fujitsu Siemens' previous world record of 47,504 set in January.
The benchmark-setting Primergy RX600 S4 was running five internal SAS 2.5" disks and 120 external 3.5' FC disks in two FibreCAT CX500 storage subsystems, connected to a Dual-Port Emulex LPe11002 PCIe disk controller for workload files.
"In real world terms, choosing a SPEC record-holding server means IT managers can be confident about system performance," Fujitsu Siemens stated in the announcement. "Fierce rivalry for the SPECweb benchmark has helped to increase the tuning of enterprise web servers to deliver ever-better performance, meaning that IT managers looking to upgrade web servers now have even faster and more efficient models from which to choose."
