📅 - The short list of contenders has been revealed for this year's Data Center Executive of the Year (or DaCEY) and Project of the Year Awards for outstanding achievement, leadership, innovation and contributions in the data center field to be awarded in early November.
Creator and provider of leadership-themed forums Executive Alliance (exec-alliance.org) announced this week that more than 50 data centers across the US are nominated for the November 5, 2008 ceremony in Atlanta. They will be vying for seven awards in categories including data center design, green initiatives, infrastructure management, network operations, security, storage and virtualization.
Topping the list were corporate data centers for Coca-Cola, metal component manufacturer Citation, Sallie Mae and Allstate Insurance Company. Also, many universities including Purdue, MIT and Clemson University. Data centers used for hospital and medical applications also figured prominently. The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and San Antonio health service provider CHRISTUS Health won committee nods.
The top sites for data centers were generally in central and eastern US, with much penetration in the mid-west hubs of Michigan and Illinois.
While it is difficult to determine how much of each data center is specifically dedicated to Web hosting, no Web host made the list. However, Web hosting data centers look to the same principles to pull ahead as leaders in the industry.
"With over fifty distinguished nominees from across the United States, the awards recognize the importance of the responsibilities of these data center leaders and their teams to their organizations," Executive Alliance president Mary Lou Heastings said in a statement. "They are on the critical path for their organizations achieving world class excellence and at the same time significant cost reductions, which is a very difficult balancing act."
