Sep 25, 2008 : VIA Networks Adds SharePoint Services

📅 September 25, 2008 - Managed hosting provider VIA Networks (vianetworks.net) announced on Wednesday it has launched its new fully managed Windows SharePoint Services solution in a virtualized environment.


The new configuration is based on best practices for developing and deploying Microsoft SharePoint solutions on Windows Server 2008 with Hyper-V Server 2008. This configuration is said to help organizations deploy a full Windows SharePoint Services solution in a virtualization environment, while providing a flexible option for customer applications.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced it will be releasing several virtualization products including the new Hyper-V for free in the coming weeks, in an effort to increase virtualization adoption.

"We're very excited about our new SharePoint offering on Hyper-V," says Darin Elkins, managing director for VIA Networks. "By using best practices for Microsoft SharePoint and virtualization, we're able to offer customers a more flexible and powerful solution for collaboration."

The new VIA Networks virtual WSS configuration is designed for organizations that are looking to maximize their hosted environments to accommodate high growth or fluctuations in capacity.

The solution is designed to work with Microsoft SharePoint environments on traditional server deployments and uses Microsoft's best practices for high performance, scalability and capacity planning.

The WSS virtualized solution combined with VIA Networks' SharePoint platform management enables customers to quickly deploy a collaboration environment.

VIA Networks provides application hosting and managed services to more than 36,000 business customers in 80 countries worldwide as an integrated part of the Claranet Group, Europe's largest independent managed services firm.

This has been a busy year for VIA Networks, who opened its new Las Vegas office in February as part of its continuing expansion across North America.
