Jun, 2001 : Gilian Technologies to Host Hacker Task Force
📅 - Gilian Technologies Inc. (gilian.com), a Web security leader, announced on Wednesday that it will host an executive teleconference to take place on June 22nd entitled ?Why Financial Institutions Are So Easy To Hack.? This effort, co-sponsored by Deutsche Bank, is intended to educate senior executives on the rapid increase in hacker sabotage particular to finance and banking organizations.
Teaming up with security experts Dr. Avi Rubin of AT&T, Jeff Crume of IBM, and Marc McGovern of EDS, the forum will address the threats facing online financial institutions, the cost of security breaches, solutions, as well as up-to-date best practices for online security policy.
?As banks are increasingly becoming connected to the Internet and provide electronic banking products and services, national banks should take the necessary steps to implement and maintain secure systems,? said Clifford A. Wilke, Director for the U.S. Treasury's Office of the Comptroller of Currency's Bank Technology Division.
?We're facing an epidemic,? said Hilmon Sorey spokesman for Gilian. ?Cyber war is being waged on financial institutions and the resulting loss of revenue, and customer confidence has many financial institutions in a panic. We are offering this conference as a service to our customers and to the industry at large.?
Mr. Sorey notes that while many of Gilian's customers have been driven to them by the growing concern regarding their online security, banks and financial institutions are unique in that regulatory authorities audit their security systems and it is anticipated that future legislation will be directed at these organizations and their online business.
Dr. Avi Rubin is the author of Web Security Sourcebook, White-hat Security Arsenal, and has contributed to the upcoming ?Peer-to-Peer.? Jeff Crume has authored ?Inside Internet Security: What Hackers Don't Want You to Know,? and Marc McGovern is a senior security consultant with the Information Assurance Services Group at EDS.
