Jun, 2001 : Primus Canada Launches Toronto Data Center

📅 - Primus Canada Inc. (primus.ca), Canada's second largest alternative communications carrier, today launched an expanded full-service data centre in the downtown core to serve its growing roster of managed hosting, shared hosting, co-location and data/ Internet customers.

?With our first full service data centre for Canada, we have responded to customer demand for a technologically advanced, reliable and stable environment to support their data and Internet requirements,? said Ted Chislett, President and Chief Operating Officer of Primus Canada. ?The data centre also enables us to bring our well-established expertise in data services to some of Canada's leading businesses, and it gives all our customers the benefit of our superior broadband connectivity to major markets around the world.?
The 7,500-square-foot facility is designed to offer world-class levels of reliability and redundancy, including HVAC temperature control, anti-static floors, triple redundant backbone and fully redundant on-site power supply for uninterrupted service in the event of power outages. Security features include an alarm system, controlled 24x7 access and complete video camera surveillance. In addition, co-location services and equipment are contained in a separate area with supervised customer access by appointment only.
The centre serves customers through its 50 Gbit capacity Internet Protocol backplane routing and switching centre. The servers connect seamlessly with Primus's 46 points of presence across Canada, and to over 45 Internet peering and transit interconnects on Primus's global broadband Internet/data network.
?This facility is very much in keeping with the trend noted by The Gartner Group to serving more customers through smaller data centres,? added Mr. Chislett. ?At the same time, our data centre is designed to support a comprehensive suite of data products, which complement our market leading voice services. Primus Canada's communications solutions and the networks that support them are scaleable and integrated on a global level, giving customers lots of room to grow while improving the quality of service.?
The data centre will facilitate a wide variety of managed, dedicated, shared and application hosting and co-location services for Primus's customers. Whichever hosting option is chosen, the customer saves the cost of capital purchases, staff and insurance while being assured of quality equipment and network support, 24 x 7 service and substantial bandwidth connection to the Internet.
Mr. Chislett concluded, ?The Primus network is truly a local-to-global network. Our customers enjoy reliable end-to-end service so that their data goes where they want it to go as quickly as it can get there. Our data centre is part of our pledge to continue to lead the way in service for data customers.?
