Jul, 2001 : Data Return to Host for .NET Code-Sharing Site

📅 July 16, 2001 - Building on its experience with Microsoft .NET EnterpriseServer applications, Data Return Corporation (datareturn.com) todayannounced a partnership with Vertigo Software (vertigosoftware.com) tosupport the Visual Studio.NET CodeSwap Web site, vcodeswap.com.

Data Return, a global provider of managed hosting services, says it willensure the highest availability for the CodeSwap site by providing serverand network hardware, system setup and configuration, system backup, 24/7monitoring and maintenance, technical support and storage of the code sourcelibraries.
The CodeSwap site went live with Data Return on June 19, 2001, givingdevelopers a place to easily connect with each other to publish and findsource code snippets. CodeSwap is a new add_in tool to the recently releasedbeta 2 version of Visual Studio .NET, which provides a complete developmentenvironment for building XML Web services and applications on the Microsoft.NET framework.
"Because of Data Return's strategic relationship with Microsoft, the companyhas been able to test and deploy many of its customers on pre_releaseversions of Microsoft .NET Enterprise Server applications," said DavidMendlen, lead product manager for Visual Studio .NET at Microsoft Corp. Developers can download the CodeSwap tool free of charge from the its Website. CodeSwap allows users to share code snippets online through a threestep process: Code authors write a brief summary describing their code andthen add it to their list of shared snippets, which are uploaded through theCodeSwap Web service. When developers search for code, their computer makesa Web service call to the CodeSwap server, which stores all the descriptionsand code that are available online. When a developer finds a useful pieceof code, they simply download it directly from the centralized Data Returnserver.
