Absolut Vodka Chooses Hostcentric to Manage Interactive Site

📅 July 17, 2001 - Hostcentric, Inc (hostcentric.com -> web.com), one of America's leading managed service providers, announced that it has been selected by Absolut Vodka to host an interactive Web site, absolutdirector.com, that allows Absolut consumers to create their own original short film with the help of old sci-fi film clips and new technology tools.

Once logged onto www.absolutdirector.com, visitors can shuffle the order of a series of film clips from a 1967 Japanese sci-fi film, Girara, and create fresh dialogue to produce an entirely new short film in their own creative vision. The "director" can then compare his or her finished product to that of Spike Lee's and other directors who will soon add their versions to the site.
Three of the companies behind the scenes of the site that recently went livewere Hostcentric; Submarine LLC, a New York-based digital studio; and PillarApplications Group, a development and consulting company. Hostcentrichelped to design the system architecture, server configuration and securitysystems.
Scalability was of the utmost importance for Absolutdirector.com because itwas unclear how much traffic the site would generate during its debut. Todeal with that uncertainty, Hostcentric applied a building block approach tothe system architecture that allows servers to be easily added or deletedfor more or less capacity.
Absolutdirector.com uses Shockwave technology to reduce extensive bandwidthrequirements. Web site users can also experience the dynamic capabilitiesof Lucent Technologies' text-to-speech technology when they hear the newdialogue they have typed in spoken back to them.
