Jul, 2001 : Register.com Accepting .info Domain Applications
📅 - Register.com, Inc., a leading provider of domain name registration and Internet services, announced Thursday that the company has begun accepting applications for .info Sunrise registrations from eligible trademark and service mark holders.
Afilias Ltd. (afilias.com), the .info registry, has designated a "Sunrise period," beginning July 25th, to allow owners of intellectual property to register qualified names before the general public. As a service to its customers, Register.com is giving registrants extra time to prepare for the launch of the .info Sunrise Period, thereby increasing their chances of getting in the first batch of Sunrise registrations to be processed by the .info registry and obtaining their desired names.
The Sunrise registration names will be processed by the .info registry in several sequential batches, the first of which is scheduled to start on July 25th and close at midnight (EDT) on July 31st. Subsequent batches will be processed every few days until August 15th, at which point Sunrise registrations will be performed in real-time through August 27th.
"Because many businesses can have trademarks on the same name in different industries, we are advising eligible trademark and service mark holders to move quickly and get into the first batch," said Richard Forman, President and CEO of Register.com
In the event that two registrants request the same domain name in the same batch, the recipient of the name will be selected by the .info registry through a randomized process. Registrations for the .info domain name will be available for a five-year term for $35 peryear.
The .info Sunrise Period will be open to all owners of any current trademark or service mark that have any national effect andwere registered prior to October 2, 2000. .info will be the Internet's first unrestricted top-level domain since .com, available for all uses, including business, personal and not-for-profit Web sites.
