Nov, 2001 : CSC to Replace Canadian Government's HRDC Network System

📅 November 16, 2001 - Computer Sciences Corporation (csc.com) has been awarded a contract by Public Works and Government Services Canada to replace Human Resources Development Canada's (hrdc-drhc.gc.ca) network operating system with new technology. The value of the contract, which has a five-year base period and two option years, could reach approximately $96 million Canadian ($60.3 million U.S.) if all options are exercised.

HRDC delivers employment insurance, income security, employment programs,corporate services, and homelessness and labor services to the citizens ofCanada via several delivery channels, ranging from walk-in services toautomated telephone systems and self-serve kiosks. To provide theseservices, approximately 26,000 HRDC users access the current networkinfrastructure for capabilities such as file/print, calendaring, messaging,directory and security.
"This is an important contract win for CSC in the Canadian federalgovernment information technology market and further expands our presence inthe Ottawa region," said Tony R. Canning, president of CSC's Canadianoperations. "We look forward to serving HRDC in implementing and supportinga state-of-the-art networking system."
The CSC solution, which includes replacing existing technology withMicrosoft products, will operate with HRDC's corporate informationmanagement and information technology infrastructure, and will supportHRDC's goals of improved functionality and services.
The contract scope includes IT architecture, software license arrangements,server hardware and services for transition, migration, implementation,support and maintenance. The project will allow HRDC to leverage newtechnology in support of the Government On-Line initiatives, which call forCanadians to be able to access all government information and servicesonline at the time and place of their choosing by the year 2004. CSC'sCanadian federal sector business unit, located in Ottawa and headed byCharlie Whelan, managing director, will manage the contract. CSC will besupported by Compaq Canada Inc., which will provide server technology andtechnical architecture services, and by CDI Corporate Education Services,which is providing training services.
