) said today that its move to Sphera's HostingDirector platform was a resounding success.
Jumpline said the move, which was first announced in January, involved the transfer of 16,000 customer Web sites from machines located a data center maintained by Alabanza, which had been providing platform services for the company until mid-March, to servers in Columbus, Ohio. Jumpline's servers are now located in a Columbus data center operated by Qwest.
Marc Hardgrove, one of Jumpline's co-founders, said the move was complicated by a letter sent to the company by Alabanza when informed of Jumpline's decision to move to Sphera's HostingDirector platform. Jumpline said it was left with less than 30 days to migrate 17,000 customers.
Hardgrove said that while Alabanza played a key role in Jumpline's customer and revenue growth, the company ultimately decided to move because of the flexibility that Sphera's hosting platform offered. HostingDirector "gives you the ability to add in your own power apps, and form partnerships outside of their platform and integrate them," he said.
Hardgrove was also impressed by the support Jumpline received from Sphera during the move, and said the company's enthusiasm to secure Jumpline's business was key in its decision to choose Sphera over other hosting platforms.
"When we needed them the most, they had 15 of their employees here in our office helping with the data center, and they had another 25 in Israel helping us with this thing," he said. Sphera has offices in the United States, Europe and Israel. "They made a commitment to us that no other company was willing to do, and that's why they won our business. And their software ... we think they've got a great platform as well," Hardgrove said.
While Hardgrove said a small number of Jumpline customers experienced some issues with the transfer, he was pleased the company was able to successfully complete a large-scale transfer with a limited amount of time to work with. "We had our bumps and we had our bruises, [but] any time you try to do anything of that magnitude in 25 days, you're going to have issues," he said.
Hardgrove said the move will enable Jumpline to offer clients a wider range of products, as it now has the advantage of maintaining its own equipment in a data center located in the same city as the company's headquarters. As a result, Jumpline plans to introduce a full-service private label Web hosting solution by mid-year. "Now we can take things to the next level," he said. "It gives us unlimited upward potential by being in our own data center."
Founded in 1997, Jumpline provides Web hosting solutions for more than 1,000 resellers and 30,000 domains in 94 countries worldwide.
