May 30, 2002 : Microsoft Issues Exchange 2000 Alert

📅 May 30, 2002 - A newly discovered vulnerability in Microsoft's Exchange 2000 could potentially cause e-mail servers to become unresponsive, the company said yesterday.

The company said an attacker able to make a direct connection to an Exchange 2000 Server and pass raw mail messages directly to it could exploit the vulnerability and cause the system to crash.
"This vulnerability does not enable the attacker to gain any privileges on the system, nor to read, send, or delete any user's mail on the system. After the message had been processed, the system returns to normal," the company said in an alert on its site.
Microsoft has made a patch available to fix the problem.

(gartner.com) unit Dataquest Inc. announced on Thursday that due to weak economic conditions in Argentina, server shipments and revenue in Latin America experienced strong declines in the first quarter of 2002. Latin American server shipments declined 10.4 percent, says Gartner Dataquest, while server revenue declined 16.1 percent from the first quarter of 2001.
