Sep 25, 2002 : Red Hat to Educate Public on Linux
📅 - Linux and open source technology developer Red Hat (redhat.com) announced on Wednesday that it will begin a year-long initiative to provide a series of seminars designed to educate the public about Linux Markets, Careers and Technology.
Running twice monthly throughout 2002 and 2003, the "Empowered by Red Hat" technical seminar will be open to the public and free of cost.
Starting in the Washington, DC area in early October, the tour will visit nine major US cities, says Red Hat, providing one event in each city, including Mountain View, CA in November 2002; New York, NY in December 2002; Irvine, CA in January 2003; Atlanta, GA in February 2003; Chicago, IL in March 2003; Philadelphia, PA in April 2003; Boston, MA in May 2003; Austin, TX in June 2003; Mountain View, CA in July 2003 and Washington DC in August 2003. The seminar will also be delivered once each month at Red Hat's headquarters in Raleigh, NC.
Participants in the seminar series will learn how Linux is being deployed and used by companies, they will explore Linux and open source career options and will work hands-on with Red Hat Linux. They will also have access to discounts on Red Hat's Red Hat Certified Engineer training and certification program.
"A broader audience is seeking information on what Linux is and how it can benefit organizations," said Peter Childers, vice president of Learning Services at Red Hat. "The price-performance advantage makes Linux the clear choice for companies and governments looking to do more with less. CIOs, CTOs and IT managers are already starting to see this, and many others want to get ready to support new Linux-based environments. These seminars provide a helpful roadmap."
While the seminars will be open to the public, says Red Hat, space and enrollment are limited. Special seminar webcasts will be made available to those unable to attend.
