Feb, 2003 : IBM Rolls Out New SMB Software Portfolio

📅 - Computing solutions developer IBM (IBM.com) announced on Tuesday that it has rolled out a broad portfolio of infrastructure software for small and medium businesses under the Express banner from its DB2, Lotus and Tivoli brands, following the success of the WebSphere offerings announced in the fall.

Designed and priced specifically for SMBs, says IBM, the new open standards-based middleware will help mid-sized firms address e-business requirements like data management, storage management, collaboration and messaging. The products are designed to help SMBs integrate different operations, including those for managing finance and accounting, customer relationships and the supply chain.
"The IBM Express offerings announced today also help lower costs and improve administration through autonomic computing characteristics such as self-configuring, self-healing, self-optimizing and self- protecting features -- all key attributes of a successful on-demand environment," said Mark Ouellette, vice president of SMB Software Sales and Marketing, IBM. "It's these autonomic capabilities that allow IT professionals to focus on critical business needs rather than managing the system itself."
In collaboration with business partners, IBM developed the new DB2 Express, a full function database for the midmarket, with an entry price of under $1,000 and the IBM Tivoli Storage Resource Manager Express Edition, an open, integrated solution enabling SMBs to optimally manage storage environments, designed for deployment on single-processor desktops.
IBM says the second quarter will see the launch of its Lotus Domino Collaboration Express, which will include the Domino Server, plus the choice of Notes client or iNOtes browser-based access to email and collaborative applications.
