Feb, 2003 : Telestra Deploys Cisco 10Gb Ethernet Gear

📅 - Internet networking developer Cisco Systems Inc. (cisco.com) announced on Monday that Austrialian telecommunications company Telestra has expanded its Internet backbone capacity, upgrading to 10 Gigabits per second using the Cisco 12000 Series Internet Routers.

According to Cisco, Telestra has activated the first 10 Gigabit Ethernet link on its Telestra Internet Direct (TID) backbone, which delivers broadband Internet services for business and home users across Australia. The upgrade, says Cisco, provides the company with greater backbone bandwidth to ensure TID's performance and reliability.
Cisco says the TID upgrade is one of several planned improvements within Telestra's Sydney and Melbourne metropolitan area networks over the next few months. Telestra will continue by rolling out the upgrades in other capital cities and the national long haul network as additional bandwidth is needed.
The TID background, says Cisco, is built around a meshed network of 16-slot Cisco 12416 Internet routers, providing a high-end routing platform for backbone and edge applications.
