😠 Midphase's migration on Feb 2024 disabled cgi-bin
After Midphase's migration on Feb 2024, the cgi-bin scripts on our web site (that worked for decades) stopped working without any warning from Midphase. The senior support engineer who responded to our support ticket didn't even seem to know how cgi-bin works.
After spending two days with their chat support, we were informed that Midphase doesn't support cgi-bin functionality any longer due to security concerns. This looks very amateurish as cgi-bin has been the standard web technology that has security safeguards when it is properly setup, and is supported by the majority of the web hosting providers.
This has been a horrible experience that affected our web site, and we will have to relocate it to a more professional hosting service.

😠 I've been with Midphase for over 10 years. They're absolutely horrible. They used to be great - but now the simplest tickets require me to send about 10-15 emails (Example - there appears to have been a geoblocker error. Suddenly no German IP addresses could access one of my sites. I live in Germany, so this is a disaster. Their response was to ask me to send them the IP addresses of "everyone who couldn't access the site" to individually unblock them! They were unable to understand that I might also want random clients to be able to access my site as well - it simply didn't interest them. I kept getting the same canned response "have the blocked person send us their IP". It took me TWO WEEKS to get someone to finally unblock the site.) They're completely incompetent. I'm so frustrated because I have tons of websites hosted with them and migrating them all will be a nightmare. I've never been so disappointed by a company - not an exaggeration. Choose another hosting provider.

😠 I have been with Midphase since at least 2012, but have mostly used it for storage of a long neglected website. They are adequate so long as you require nothing of them.
Recently I needed to access the EPP code for my primary domain but could not do so because the domain was registered with a long defunct email. I contacted Midphase support for assistance and they referred me to instructions in their knowledgebase to update the WHOIS through their backend. Following their instructions, however, resulted in an erroneous error: "The values were fine, but we couldn't update the database." I contacted support again for assistance and have now been waiting two weeks without any solution.
I tried to go around Midphase by contacting the registrar, directly. The registrar informed me that my domain was registered with a reseller, UK2group, and that I should contact them. I did so, and UK2group curtly responded that I should contact my web host for support. So they have me [read more...]

🔃 midPhase is part of Ingenuity Cloud Services(3*) 🔧 Services: Web HostingDomain Registration Own datacenter
⇔ Redirected domains: midphase-inc.com dotable.com wingsix.com us2.net
⇔ Redirected domains: anhosting.com
Established in 2003 (later acquired by UK2 in 2007), Midphase positions itself as a straightforward, value-focused host for getting online quickly.
midPhase Co-Founder and SingleHop CEO was Zak Boca, who was named one of Inc. Magazine's Reader's Choice Entrepreneurs of the Year 2006. He sold in December 2007 to UK2.net. SingleHop was sold in February 2018 to INAP, rebranded recently to HorizonIQ
midPhase, still in business, sell domains, email hosting, shared hosting (including WordPress hosting), and a website builder, with migration help, one-click apps (80+), free wildcard SSL via Let’s Encrypt, and an easy on-ramp for first-time sites. Their platform and customer tools revolve around the CHI account hub, with StackCP used for day-to-day hosting/email management; cPanel/WHM is referenced in guides and appears on certain services or migrations.
WordPress plans bundle a simple three-step installer, access to templates/plugins, and 24×7 help. Email hosting is pitched as a low-cost way to brand communications on your own domain, with IMAP/POP support and mobile access. Domains are promoted with aggressive first-year pricing and bulk registration tools.
A few strategic shifts are important to note for buyers comparing offers in 2025: VPS, Cloud, and Dedicated services have been moved off midphase.com to Ingenuity Cloud Services. Shared hosting and the site builder remain, but many plan names, prices, and even promotional pages read unchanged since late 2020, and blog activity ceased in 2020 (dates removed on-site). Several policy pages (e.g., "Terms and Conditions 2021" for email) are still shown, which suggests limited product iteration and housekeeping on parts of the site.
💰 Price & Cost
- Domains: .com $0.99 for the first year when buying 2 years; renews at $16.59/yr.
- Email Hosting: Personal $0.50/mo (2 GB, up to 100 mailboxes); Professional $1.00/mo (10 GB, 25 MB attachments).
- Shared Hosting – Essential: $3.75/mo for 24 months, then $5.00/mo.
- WordPress – Essential: $6.74/mo for 24 months, then $7.99/mo.
- Website Builder – Essential: $4.46/mo (renews at standard price).
Money-back guarantee: 30-day refund for first-time orders of shared, reseller, WordPress hosting, and Website Builder. Exclusions include upgrades, domains/transfer fees, SSLs, and dedicated servers. After 30 days or after renewal, refunds aren’t available.
Billing runs through CHI. They emphasize credit/debit cards on file for renewals; public notes about PayPal/Stripe relate to e-commerce on your site, not paying Midphase.
🏢 Data Center
They market a global network for historic VPS/Dedicated (35+ locations named across US/EU/Asia/Oceania) and "choice of locations" for VPS in the US/UK/Europe. However, as of 2025 those lines are operated at Ingenuity Cloud Services, not midphase.com. For current shared/WordPress plans, they advertise platform reliability but don’t specify concrete datacenter locations for active shared hosting on the site, which leaves buyers with limited transparency. Historically, uptime language included a 99.9% connectivity guarantee with service credits; elsewhere they promote a platform 99.995% SLA headline.
✍️ Customer Support
Technical support is 24/7 via live chat (from your control panel) and tickets. Billing support operates Mon–Fri, 06:00–15:00 ET (closed weekends/bank holidays). They maintain a knowledgebase, service-status page, and list phone assistance paths (e.g., within cancellation instructions).
🔨 Control Panel
- CHI (Client Hosting Interface) for account, billing, services, and tickets.
- StackCP for hosted email/hosting functions (DNS, mail, backups, apps).
- cPanel/WHM appears in documentation and migrations and is supported on certain services, though not necessarily the default across all current shared plans.
🎯 Conclusion
Midphase is appealing if you need low-cost domains, very inexpensive email, and starter shared/WordPress hosting with free wildcard SSL, one-click apps, and round-the-clock assistance. The 30-day money-back policy on first-time shared/WordPress/Builder orders adds safety, and the CHI/StackCP tooling is simple enough for newcomers. On the caution side, Midphase has moved VPS/Cloud/Dedicated to IngenuityCloudServices, doesn’t clearly disclose datacenter locations for current shared hosting, and much of the marketing (plan names/prices, blog, and some policies) appears stale or outdated. For a basic site or email on a budget, they may fit; for buyers seeking active roadmap signals, modernized plans, or transparent infrastructure details, the lack of visible updates and specifics is a meaningful drawback that should be weighed before committing.

😠 I had a vps running with these guys for 3 years - okay service. Then they got bought out by uk2.net and things started changing.
In Aug 2010 they completely lost a RAID array and deleted an entire server, the one that my VPS was on. Clearly some clown of a system admin was buggering up a data centre migration.
No back-ups, no option of data recovery, nothing. All data gone. I could have lived with the huge amount of work involved in getting a new VPS tuned up, and 50GB of client accounts and databases restored from local files. I was annoyed, and staggered that they could lose the mirrored drive as well as the main storage. But I recognize that hardware fails and although 100% data lose is about as bad as it gets and screams poor infrastructure, bad sys admins and general incompetence, I'm not unreasonable and was ready to get on with it.
The thing that blew me away was the 'support' that was non-existent. There was no recognition that this was a disaster for me [read more...]

😠 I started as a ServerCentral/WingSix client in 1998. In 2008 they were sold to midPhase. All in all I was a client for twelve years and the last two were under midPhase - but that was two years too long.
midPhase lost 11 years worth of data by keeping the back-ups on the same HDD as the live sites.
They were billing me for domains that had been canceled or transferred months or years before. Then they started billing for domains 90 days before expiration and they'd change the registrant and IP information to point to UK2 Group. They changed billing policies with no communication/notification at all.
They gave me a direct number and personal rep to deal with when we had problems. Yet any time we tried to get a hold of that person or tried her extension it was a dead end - I was told once that no such person ever worked for the company.
They would respond to one support email and the next email in the thread they would reply with a note that I had to identify myself - that [read more...]

😠 Even with 3 month's credit by WingSix.com and MidPhase.com on our quarterly account things have gotten progressively worse!
After Marc Bollinger <markb@midphase.com>, UK-2's GM took over our emails have not worked more than 60% of the time. Very poor service and response, payment in advance will not be refunded when we move to another host, credit to our non-profit account will not be reimbursed upon moving out, and no call backs or email responses from Marc. Emails to him now bounce back! Things seem to be in total disarray there!
All in all a bad risk for any current or potential reseller or any company needing normal hosting. [review for wingsix.com]

😠 I was with Servercentral for along time.
I've been without service for 6 days now. My service from this group has steadily declined since WingSix "took" over Servercentral.
Customer Service knows less about their product then I do. I have to tell them what's what with their service.
No emails now in 5 days.
I honestly suspect they're purposely doing this so I drop them and go elsewhere, I'm not a big enough fish.

😠 I have been with midPhase for about two years, last year June my sites on win01 has been down for 5 days.No email,no web site & no FTP. They are not even able to say when the site will up. so I force move to Linux server, but they still change me with 2 years old Windows plan price ($179/year) and not give refund for 8 months of windows plan/ Linux service.(from 06-2008 to 01-2009) call to Billing Department they say need to investigating why win01 server crash last year, Are you kidding me? Now they suspended my account. Stay away from this company

😠 We are webmasters for a site that uses MidPhase for hosting. We continue to be amazed at the lack of knowledge these people display! They would no longer host Front Page sites on the Linux servers, and moved the account in question to a Windows server. They did not notify customers that they were being pulled off the servers!
We have been on the phone on a daily basis with these people trying to figure out how to use Plesk (sp?) instead of the usual type of control panel, but that's the least of it. They now have the site set up so it needs a password to get in the public domain portion!! We have several AdWords accounts associated with this site, and are still paying because the site is active - it's just that nobody can get into it! Check out AAIRLLC.com We requested that they password protect the Front Page (behind the scenes) portion because it was wide open to attackers. They passworde protected the public portion instead!!
Obviously, we will be taking down the AdWords [read more...]

😠 Unspoken horrors ... All my sites and midphase.com and status.midphase.com (which provides outage status) are all down. It seems nothing is running on the midphase network for the last 6 hours. This is after my sites had been down for 2 days just about a week back.
Horrible customer service and to expect them to be polite would be a bit too much since it's a big deal they manage to communicate in english at all. That reminds me, I sent a sarcastic e-mail to one of their managers (Good going. Keep it up !!). After reading other reviews I think she might take that seriously. Damn !!
Life with MidPhase is a lot of fun if you have a sense of humour and no regards for your site's downtime or functionality .. Man I love these guys !!
PS : My first site hosting experience and I already know that these guys are probably the worst there is. They are that bad.

😠 After nine months with midPhase, I have to say they are still the worst web hosting company I've had to deal with. All of my sites in my "Mega" plan have been down for four days and counting--they're still not back up. Unacceptable performance; midPhase is run by a bunch of incompetent kids.

😃 I have not had any great issues with Mid Phase. The support has been good and hardly any down time at all. I was reading about all the complaints and was quite surprised. So far so good for me with Mid Phase. :)

😠 I've been building websites since 1995 and have dealt with many hosts. midPhase ranks near the bottom of the barrel. Two months of technical nightmares that are not all resolved yet. Hidden fees. Deceptive advertising ("No hidden fees!"). Support is a joke--tier 2 techs are in the Ukraine, and some do not speak English, yet try to communicate--when they get around to it. Would only recommend midPhase for someone I wished to see suffer.

😠 I switched to midphase several years ago after my old host's service started to fall apart. The experience was great... back then, midphase was the best host I'd ever had. Very little down time, very responsive when my site did go down, very friendly. On the rare occasion that I had significant downtime, they credited my account, which wasn't necessary, but was very nice.
For the past year or so, I've been getting more and more frustrated with them. I have frequent downtime. Their tech support are all Russian or Ukrainian or some such, are difficult to communicate with, and are rather rude. My questions go unanswered.
Now I'm researching other webhosts to see where I want to move my site, and I find that even the services they offer are overpriced. I'm finding webhosts that offer several times the amount of space for the same or less money.
I'd avoid them.

😠 Very bad experience with mid phase. It was the first host I had ever used, so I was very new. I signed up for 1 plan and was told I could upgrade my plan later. Not knowing what I was doing I upgraded and was charged for to set up fees. I explain this to the manager, but was rude.
Took a lot longer to come on line than I was told. Had lot of problems with site staying up,hard to get to the right office, keep getting switched around. Hosting one place, service another?
May be they have gotten better but I would not recommend them.

😁 Joined 4 other hosting sites before I could find all the things I wanted, nothing hidden like 2 tech support questions a year - then $10.00 each or ask a question on Sunday and get an answer on Thursday if you are lucky.
MidPhase was suggested. Cautiously I tried it looking for al the gimmicks and catches. Started over 2 years ago and just when MidPhase was expanding, and adding servers. There were outages, too many for a while but when they had everything settled last June 2006 it was a GO and still is. BTW customers who did have those outages were given rebates... how many do that???
Tech support - what more do you want when you e-mail it's answered in less than an ½ hour 24/7. T MidPhase figured it out... problems and questions don't just happen between 8 - 5pm and never on Saturday or Sunday. Online chat is 24/7 and have never been disappointed or put off.
A message for all those unhappy people from early 2006, COME ON BACK.

😠 developers plan; Midphase use to have a great service but, in the past few months they have hired lots of un responsible customer service agents if you go look at there site it's advertised with a 24/7/365 days for live support but now during the weekend you can't get a hold of no one, and when you finally do (talking about few hours) their is one guy and he has the least bit of knowledge of how to get something fixed...
that being said, even in the weekdays you'll get the customer rep asking you to write a ticket (to the russians) which on the other hand it like writing english and being answered in russian because they will answer you with what ever they well please. and before you know it you have spent ( 6 ) six long hours writing back and forth when a simple phone call can do the trick (but only if the guy their some training on how to fix a problem) seriously I suggest to find a better hosting company...

😞 Avoid these people if you need your site up.
They have had 2 incidents this year and their customer support was appalling.
2 days ago my site went missing. Contacted their support and they did respond quickly telling me that had server problems but that they were fixed. I still could not access my site through a browser (ftp was good). I went back and forth and finally an admin told me "Sorry, it's your ISP" even though the problem was consistent on 2 completely different networks.
I was shocked at this callous response and told the admin he was incompetent.
Shortly I received an email telling me my site was suspended until I apologized. ???????????. I promptly switched Hosts.
This is outrageous behavior from a customer service department.
Stay away from these people..
