Aug 22, 2007 : IS Opens Upgraded IDC in Cape Town

📅 August 22, 2007 - Converged communications services provider Internet Solutions (is.co.za) announced on Wednesday it opened its upgraded International Data Centre in Cape Town, Johannesburg.

The 800 square meter power room, installed by Dimension Data, provides increased capacity to ensure 100 percent uptime for IS customers. An additional 300 square meter data center space is planned for September.

"After the power outages experienced in Cape Town during last year we wanted to ensure we could maintain IS' 100 percent uptime record and this called for an upgrade to our power plant," says Greg Montjoie, manager for Hosted Solutions at IS.

With no disruption to customer services during the nine-month project, Dimension Data installed three 250KVA generators, nine 400KVA uninterrupted power supplies, two 9,000 liter diesel tanks and two cooling towers weighing 10 tons each. The power upgrade is expected to meet IS' needs for at least the next 10 years, says Montjoie.
