Aug 23, 2007 : VeriSign Founder Named Chairman

📅 - Registry operator VeriSign (verisign.com) announced on Tuesday it has named founder Jim Bidzos as chairman, giving him control of the board for a second time.

He replaced Edward Mueller, who announced his resignation last week to become CEO of Qwest Communications International. Bidzos says VeriSign will add new products and enter new markets during his tenure.

Bidzos, who founded the company in 1995, says he will be "an active chairman". He also added that he wants the company to become a provider of "core infrastructure" for mobile messaging, content delivery and identity services.

VeriSign announced in February that it plans to increase the capacity of its switching system to 4 trillion transactions a day from its current daily level of approximately 400 billion. The company expects to complete the work by 2010. The system handles about 26 billion transactions on a typical day.
